A Brief Overview
The Neuroscience Engineer is responsible for providing technical support for the DBS lead implant surgery program before, during, and after every case. This includes (1) maintaining an inventory of supplies used, (2) ensuring the correct supplies and devices are present for each case, (3) working with the neurosurgeons, neurologists, nurses, and scrub techs throughout each case to achieve the neurosurgeon's particular workflow, (4) operating and maintaining the systems used for microelectrode recording, (5) ensuring that reusable devices are properly packaged and processed after each case, and (6) other ancillary responsibilities in support of the DBS lead implant program. Most of these responsibilities will be accomplished independently, requiring a high level of motivation, organization, and attention to detail. The successful execution of these responsibilities is critical to the success of the DBS lead implant surgeries. The Neuroscience Engineer is also responsible for providing technical support to the Stanford Autonomic Disorders Program.

What you will do
  • Provide technical support to the DBS lead implant cases from start to finish. Work closely with the neurosurgeons, neurologists, nurses, scrub techs, and NDL tech throughout the case to achieve the neurosurgeon's particular workflow.
  • Maintain an inventory of single-use supplies used in the DBS lead implant surgeries. Request vendor quotes, submit PO requests, monitor the status of pending orders and back orders, pick up shipments at the loading dock, and restock the storage area.
  • Before every case, prepare all single use supplies needed for the specific case. At the beginning of the case, ensure that all required supplies and equipment are in the operating room, and assist the surgeon in preparing the equipment, if appropriate for the specific case. After every case, ensure that all reusable devices are properly prepared for processing.
  • Set-up and take down, operate, trouble shoot, and maintain the audio system used in the OR during microelectrode recording.
  • Assist the neurosurgeon's or neurologist's research team in preparing for the OR and in integrating the research protocol with the surgical workflow.
  • Provide general technical support for the patient testing conducted in the Autonomic Lab.
  • Support research activities in the Human Neural Circuitry Lab across modalities such as DBS, sEEG, EEG, and fMRI. Responsibilities may include hardware and software development, experimental task design, data collection, and research administration
  • Process and analyze neural and medical imaging data from research studies. Develop and maintain analysis of pipelines and documentation to support reliable and reproducible research

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $62.75 - $83.16 per hour
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
