Job Description:

GDIT is seeking a Sr. Enterprise Architect Principal to serve as the Electronic Health Record (EHR) Service Chief Engineer, providing senior level technical leadership, architectural oversight, and engineering governance across a complex, largescale EHR ecosystem. This role supports mission-critical health IT operations and modernization efforts, guiding the design, integration, performance, and security of enterprise EHR services.

As an Sr. Enterprise Architect Principal, you will act as the highest-level engineering consultant to program leadership and customer stakeholders. You will define and orchestrate technical strategy, drive innovation, evaluate emerging technologies, and ensure systems meet reliability, interoperability, and compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the senior technical authority for engineering, integration, and architecture across the EHR service portfolio and/or EHR customers.
  • Develop and maintain enterprise-level engineering strategy, roadmaps, and modernization plans.
  • Lead technical reviews, architectural governance, and engineering decision-making for major initiatives.
  • In coordination with customer-side engineering leadership, define the engineering process and gates for the program.
  • Drive and mentor systems engineering rigor across the program for new deployments, capabilities, enhancements and change.
  • Provide engineering oversight of EHR platforms, including workflows, infrastructure, cloud services, interfaces, and data exchange.
  • Ensure the environment meets standards for availability, performance, scalability, and cybersecurity.
  • Direct root-cause analysis for critical incidents and drive implementation of long-term corrective actions.
  • Assess emerging technologies and recommend strategic enhancements aligned with mission and program goals.
  • Collaborate with product owners, system integrators, cybersecurity teams, and operations leads to resolve complex technical challenges.
  • Mentor engineering teams and provide guidance to support workforce development and technical excellence.
  • Support proposal development, technical briefings, program reviews, and customer engagements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in enterprise health IT, EHR systems, or complex systems engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting major commercial EHR platforms (Cerner/Oracle Health, Epic, etc.) required.
  • Expertise in system architecture, cloud engineering, interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR, DICOM), and infrastructure modernization.
  • Experience leading engineering strategy in large, regulated, mission-focused environments.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust.
  • Must be able to travel up to 25%.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience with federal healthcare agencies (VA, DoW, DHA, CMS, etc.).
  • Prior experience as a chief engineer on a large-scale EHR deployment.
  • Relevant certifications: AWS/Azure Architect, ITIL, CPHIMS, CISSP, PMP, or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with GDIT engineering frameworks, governance processes, and lifecycle methodologies.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and technical advisory skills.

The likely salary range for this position is $178,500 - $241,500. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
