Job description

TITLE: CRITICAL SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN III, SWITCHGEAR
LOCATION: Northern Virginia
POSITION SUMMARY: The Critical Systems Technician III, Switchgear duties and obligations include, but are not limited to start-up, commissioning, repairs, preventive maintenance, ongoing troubleshooting, and servicing state of the art mission critical electrical equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following satisfactorily; other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Pre-Sales Support:
  • Review technical specifications with sales team and project managers to identify field operations scope of project as defined in CPG bid packages.
  • Interface with sales team to ensure proper specification compliance.
  • Review of Submittal Packages
  • Factory Support: Review equipment specifications to ensure systems meet facility requirements.
  • Attending factory witness testing as required.
  • Follow-up with Factory Project Managers to ensure punch list items identified during factory witness test are resolved before shipment.
  • Ensure factory punch list items identified as field repairable are completed when the equipment arrives on-site.
  • Interface with engineering, quality, and product support as required.
  • Installation:
  • Conduct a formal and comprehensive discussion of the elements and scope of work and change order policy/process.
  • Ensure regular scheduled meetings are held between the field PM, Sales, and the customer.
  • Advise Field Service Management of project staffing requirements.
  • Interface with contractors, vendors, and customers, acting as a site single point of contact.
  • Provide job specific technical support.
  • Work with Field Management and Scheduling to ensure site staffing/scheduling meets job requirements.
  • Coordinate all site testing, 3rd party labor, and test equipment as required.
  • Interface with the factory to resolve any site related technical issues.
  • Project
  • Identify manpower/labor requirements based on work specification.
  • Develop overall project schedule and monitor ongoing potential impacts.
  • Identify and report potential margin impacts.
  • Identify and report on work requested outside of the original scope ensuring change orders are generated.
  • Provide regular status reports to the responsible CPG Project Manager and Director, Service Operations.
  • Final Turnover:
  • Direct feedback to the responsible CPG Project Manager for problem resolution.
  • Provide required site documentation per project specification.
  • Obtain the customer’s final acceptance at job completion by project specification.
  • Other Functions
  • Coordinate specialized commissioning/testing of systems.
  • Conduct specific familiarization training for customers and field engineers.
  • Provide technical support to regional personnel in management direction.
  • Conduct site visits during regional travels at management direction.
  • Respond to service calls as required.
  • Ability to travel up to 75% of time
  • Perform preventive maintenance services (PM) on contracted gear and other components.
  • Coordinate communications to field and factory as to lessons learned during projects.
  • Other duties as assigned by Field Service Manager and Regional Service Director

Education/Experience:
  • High school or equivalent preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in electronics, electrical theory, or similar discipline requires highly desirable or equivalent work experience. Military training is an acceptable equivalent to a formal degree.
  • 7+ years of field repair / customer service experience with ups, electrical, electro-mechanical or electronics related equipment or equivalent military equipment experience required. Three to five years of mission critical specific product experience required. Knowledge of Critical Power Systems.
  • Experience with critical power equipment, including UPS, switchgear, PLCs, batteries, monitoring equipment, generators, etc.
  • Ability to read and understand one-line diagrams, blueprints, schematics, and construction drawings.
  • Organizational Skills:
  • Ability to train, influence and motivate team members.
  • Experience writing JHAs, MOPS, technical reports and procedures.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Outstanding Customer relations skills.
  • Ability to make independent decisions.
  • Maintain valid state vehicle operator's license.
  • US Citizenship
Computer Skills:
  • Technical Writing skills, including use of Word, Excel, MS Project.
  • Technical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Testing experience per NETA and NICET.
Certificates and Licenses:
  • NETA/NICET Level 2 or 3 preferred.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Ability to supervise multiple employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
