Job description

Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with a strong financial background to lead and manage a small accounting office in Brookfield, CT. This role combines hands-on accounting expertise with operational leadership and is ideal for a professional who can oversee client services while managing day-to-day office functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily operations of a small accounting office, including workflow, scheduling, and staff oversight
  • Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Oversee tax preparation for individuals, partnerships, and small businesses
  • Provide strategic financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting services to clients
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff, ensuring high-quality deliverables
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor
  • Identify process improvements to enhance efficiency and client satisfaction
  • Coordinate with external auditors, financial institutions, and regulatory agencies as needed

Qualifications:

  • Active CPA license (Connecticut preferred or ability to obtain)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s a plus)
  • 5+ years of accounting or public accounting experience
  • Prior experience managing staff or running office operations strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, tax regulations, and financial reporting
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage) and Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Experience:

  • Background in financial analysis, budgeting, and business advisory services
  • Experience working with small to mid-sized businesses
  • Proven ability to grow client relationships and support business development efforts
