Job description

Hennepin County District Court Criminal Traffic Violations Bureau is seeking a customer service focused, team-oriented Court Operations Associate to contribute to our mission of providing justice to the public. This is a diverse, inclusive, dynamic professional work environment that promotes equity for all court staff and court customers.ย 

This position assists the general public, external agencies, the Hearing Office, attorneys, judges, law enforcement, and other staff by providing and explaining court rules and procedures. Duties include all aspects of citation processing, payments, and limited criminal case processing. Work includes performing a variety of general clerical tasks which follow well-established, standardized data entry methods and procedures.ย 

Example of Dutiesย 

  • Process a large number of payments such as cash bail, maintaining daily financial drawersย 

  • Remain courteous and uphold high professional standards while assisting a high-volume of court customers daily. Customers may be in person at the counter or the Hearing Office, or communicating via phone or through electronic meansย 

  • Coordinate, communicate, and collaborate with team members to ensure daily work assignments and case processing are completed efficiently and accuratelyย 

  • Schedule calendar hearings, continuances, and other mattersย 

  • Prepare and send out notices, orders, motions, and other documents requiring a detailed knowledge of applicable terminology, rules, and proceduresย 

  • Receive, enter, and process court papers, documents, and traffic citations into the court's case processing systemย 

  • Answer general questions and assist court customers and partners as they navigate through the criminal court processย 

Typical Qualificationsย 

Minimum Education and Experienceย 

  • High school diploma or equivalentย 

  • One (1) year of relevant job experience OR equivalent amount of post-high school education and experience totaling one year.

    • Examples of relevant job experience: customer service, administrative work, office, and clerical work.ย

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with internal and external customersย 

  • Ability to de-escalate difficult customer interactions and work respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds, both as customers and coworkersย 

  • Team oriented, with a positive attitude and the ability to establish and maintain respectful, effective relationshipsย 

  • Reliable, with the ability to meet commitments and keep work projects on task with minimal supervisionย 

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructionsย 

  • Ability to learn and retain new material and concepts; make independent judgments based on training, resources, and experienceย

Logisticsย 

The Violations Bureau is located on the Public Service Level of the Hennepin County Government Center in downtown Minneapolis at 300 South 6th Street, Court Towers, SK-0871. The hours for this position will be between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday; hours may vary depending on division needs.This position is currently working primarily onsite with potential for occasional remote work, depending on business needs.ย 


Salary Rangeย 
The expected starting salary for external candidates is at least $23.50 per hour and may be higher, depending on qualifications. This position is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible forState of Minnesota employee benefits.ย
