Job Description:

Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) is a two -year community/technical college that offers more than 75 associate degree, diploma, and certificate programs for students who are either seeking quick entry into the workforce or desiring to transfer to a senior institution to pursue a bachelor's degree. HGTC offers three convenient campus locations in South Carolina, including Myrtle Beach, Conway and Georgetown.

The Emergency Medical Services division of Horry-Georgetown Technical College is seeking applicants for an Associate Professor, EMS/Paramedic. The instructor will be responsible for development of course content, teaching didactically and evaluating students in a classroom, lab and clinical settings. The position of EMS instructor is intended to involve the individual in a variety of levels of EMS education for the EMT, Advanced EMT and Paramedic.

The EMS instructor is responsible for preparing and delivering didactic and laboratory education that parallels the National EMS Standards and the South Carolina Department of Health & Environmental Control Division of EMS curriculum.

Candidates will be required to develop curriculum, instruct and supervise students, evaluate students, prepare reports and maintain student records. Candidates will participates in program planning, implementation, evaluation and maintenance of equipment and supplies. Candidates will coordinate with the EMS program director to assist with clinical rotations, tracking and providing clinical and infield direction of the student with advising as needed. Candidates will need to be able to help continuously  to upgrade the EMS program to meet the needs and responsibilities for an ever-changing, diverse career path.

Candidates will be responsible for the following (not an all inclusive list):

  • Prepare lectures for classroom instruction.
  • Prepare appropriate lab exercises in conjunction with the lecture.
  • Develop course instructional package, instructor course information sheet to coincide with course learning outcomes.
  • Required office hours to assist with student tutoring, advising and counseling.
  • Evaluate students through assignments, exams and practical scenarios.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and advisory committee meetings.
  • Attend college functions and college wide meetings.
  • Support the college goals and mission statement.

Salary is commensurate with education and work experience. Benefits include paid state holidays, annual and sick leave.

Minimum Requirements:

Associate degree in related health field (Bachelor's preferred); Licensed paramedic in SC; current certification through National Registry Paramedic; CPR Instructor and SC EMT Instructor certification. 

Preferred Qualifications:

South Carolina Advanced EMT / Paramedic Instructor Certification; ITLS / PHTLS (Trauma Certification) Instructor; Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor; Pediatric Advanced Life Support Instructor.
