Job description

Position Summary:   The Banquet Captain is someone who has the ability to organize, communicate, and lead the team through a successful event. They must be able to motivate staff and create a positive, cohesive team to deliver exceptional service. They must be able to maintain a complete working knowledge of hotel standards as well as departmental standards. The Banquet Captain must be knowledgeable of correct use and maintenance of all equipment. Cleanliness is the responsibility of all employees, including this role. Must maintain a full understanding of all banquet menus and beverages specified by the group(s). Must be flexible and possess the ability to quickly respond to any and all client needs. Must have the ability to focus and pay attention to all details of the event(s).

Qualifications: 
•     Minimum Education – High school graduate, some college preferred. 
•    Minimum Age – 18 years of age to serve alcoholic beverages to guests. 
•    Minimum Experience – Banquet serving experience required. Past Banquet Captain & Supervisory experience preferred. Any previous culinary training also preferred. 
•    Must work both independently and in a team environment. 
•    Good to excellent communication skills in English both verbal and written. 
•    Certification of alcohol awareness program, training in food, wine & liquor service preferred. 

Expectations & Responsibilities: 
•    To effectively and efficiently supervise the staff to ensure successful banquet events.
•    Responsible for training staff and maintaining a high level of performance according to hotel standards.
•    Should be ready to assist at any time to ensure optimum service to our guests. 
•    Knowledgeable of daily features and activities within the hotel as well as on the island. 
•    Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe working environment at all times. 
•    Ability to follow directions from the client, Banquet Director, Banquet Manager as well as the Catering and Conference Services Manager. 
•    Ability to execute banquet events with minimal supervision. 
•    Upholds the core values and policies & procedures of the resort. 
•    Ability to use Micros and manual systems, as well as Microsoft Office applications. 
•    All other duties as assigned.


Essential Physical Requirements: 
•    Capable of working consecutive hours without sitting down. 
•    Must be able to work on site due to daily needs of the job requirements.  
•    Must be able to stand for the entirety of shift, while reaching, bending and stooping. 
•    Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds / trays / ovals across short-medium distance. 
•    Must be able to properly and effectively communicate with guests and teammates, in person and via phone.
