Job description

Job Title:Adjunct Teaching - School of Music - Music 280R: Intro to Popular Music History (Evening Class)

Posting End Date: August 13, 2026

Position Start Date:September 1, 2026

Required Degree:

Bachelor's degree required; Master's or Doctorate degree in music preferred.

The required degree must be completed by the start date.

Experience:

Significant professional/industry experience required, as well as evidence of strong teaching ability or potential

Duties/Expectations:

  • Teach Music 280R: Intro to Popular Music History

  • Course is taught through Evening School, Thursdays from 6:00pm-6:50pm

  • This course offers an accessible introduction to popular music as a cultural, historical, and musical phenomenon and is open to students across all disciplines who have no prior musical training

  • Prepare and employ high-quality course materials, including syllabi, lesson plans, assessments, lectures, and activities that align with the School of Music's learning outcomes for the course

  • Utilize BYU's Learning Suite or Canvas to manage assignments, post grades, and communicate with students

  • Remain accessible to students for questions and assistance as needed outside of regular class time

  • Respond to student inquiries in a timely manner

  • Frequent communication with the Division Coordinator providing updates

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
