Position Summary

The School of Health and Wellness is seeking a passionate and learner-focused Instructor - Practical Nurse to join our team. In this role, you will help prepare future healthcare professionals by delivering high-quality instruction, fostering learner success, and contributing to the continuous improvement of the Practical Nurse program.

As an instructor, you will create engaging learning experiences that support the development of competent, compassionate, and practice-ready nursing professionals. Teaching may occur in a variety of settings, including classrooms, online environments, simulation labs, and clinical placements. Beyond the classroom, you will play an important role in curriculum development, learner support, industry engagement, and advancing the quality of nursing education.

What You'll Be Doing:

Deliver Quality Instruction and Assessment

Deliver engaging, learner-centered instruction in assigned courses across a variety of learning environments, including classroom, online, simulation, and clinical settings. Select and apply instructional strategies that support diverse learner needs, develop lesson plans, and create meaningful learning experiences that foster the achievement of course and program outcomes.

Evaluate learner performance on an ongoing basis, provide timely and constructive feedback, communicate learner progress to learners and administrators, and maintain all required academic records. Collaborate with the Program Chair to develop, review, and update curriculum, instructional materials, learning guides, and assessment rubrics to ensure content remains current, relevant, and aligned with program requirements.

Support Learner Success and a Positive Learning Experience

Support learners throughout their educational journey by fostering an inclusive, respectful, and supportive learning environment. Provide guidance related to attendance, conduct, academic performance, and professional expectations while identifying and addressing concerns that may impact learner success.

Refer learners to the Program Chair when additional follow-up is required and connect learners with appropriate institutional resources, such as tutoring, counselling, and accessibility services. Ensure approved accommodations are implemented in accordance with individualized accommodation plans and contribute to learner recognition initiatives, including scholarship and bursary processes. Participate in departmental and College events, such as orientation and graduation that promote learner engagement, achievement, and success.

Build Relationships and Promote the Program

Build and maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support program quality, learner success, and industry engagement. Remain current with emerging trends, regulatory requirements, and best practices in nursing education and practice, incorporating relevant changes into teaching and curriculum activities.

Support learner mobility initiatives, including articulation and transfer opportunities, and participate in advisory committees, community meetings, and industry engagement activities as required. Promote the Practical Nurse program and the College through participation in recruitment events and maintain strong relationships with employers and healthcare partners to support student learning and workforce connections.

Contribute to Continuous Improvement and Professional Practice

Contribute to the ongoing success of the School of Health and Wellness by adhering to college policies, procedures, and professional standards. Complete required training and professional development activities to maintain instructional excellence and support evolving institutional and regulatory requirements.

Participate in applied research opportunities and special projects that enhance teaching, learning, and program effectiveness. Demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement by contributing to departmental initiatives, maintaining professional competence, and undertaking other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Nursing

  • Current CRNA or CLPNA practice permit without restrictions

  • 4 years of nursing experience

  • CPR Health Care Provider Level

  • Up to date immunization records

  • Police Information Check including a vulnerable sector

  • Ability to work to full scope of practice

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

  • Some travel may be required

  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of nursing experience

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in relevant field

  • Teaching in a nursing program

  • Certification as a Healthcare Simulation Educator or equivalent experience/certification.

  • Curriculum development experience

  • Experience building and maintaining industry partnerships

  • Strong understanding of the role of the Licensed Practical Nurse

  • Experience with Learning Management Systems
