TRAINING DEVELOPER I, INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNER, โ SCS TRAINING SUPPORT SERVICES WORK LOCATION & SCHEDULE โข Position(s) will be located at the Energy Center 3535 Colonnade Parkway, Birmingham, AL โข Work schedule โ 40 hrs. per week with required 4 days in office POSITION SUMMARY The Instructional Designer I supports the analysis, design, development, implementation, and maintenance of training content for ILT and eLearning environments. Responsibilities include updates to presentations, assistance with drafting storyboards, narration, and multimedia preparation, testing of eLearning courses for proper functionality, and maintaining course documentation within SharePoint. This role works under the guidance of senior and staff instructional designers to ensure quality, consistency, and alignment with established templates and learning objectives. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Education Bachelorโs degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Communications, or related field preferred, or equivalent academic, internship, or practicum experience in instructional design or multimedia. Responsibilities: Collaborates with L&D consultants, stakeholders, and subject matter experts (SMEs) to identify training needs, define objectives, and understand target audience requirements. Participates in meetings to gather content, clarify expectations, and collect stakeholder input, ensuring feedback is incorporated throughout the development lifecycle. Designs and develops comprehensive training curricula and instructional materials, including instructor-led presentations, participant and instructor guides, job aids, reference materials, and knowledge checks/assessments. Converts source materials into professional, polished training deliverables using approved templates and standardized formats. Applies instructional design principles and adult learning best practices to create content that is engaging, effective, clear, concise, and learner-centered. Ensures all materials align with organizational branding, formatting, and document governance standards, maintaining consistency across all deliverables. Supports ongoing content updates, revisions, and maintenance activities, ensuring accuracy, version control, and compliance with established guidelines. Formats and organizes materials for usability and accessibility across delivery methods. Provides basic multimedia support as needed, including recording and editing voice-over narration to support training delivery and development of narrated content. Conduct quality assurance testing and revisions. Utilize LMS to test functionality of eLearning courses as required through the QA/QC process and provide feedback to peers. Provides regular communication to leadership and stakeholders on project progress, risks, and key updates, maintaining accurate status tracking within project management tools. Regularly uploads and maintains training content within the content management library for use by internal teams, customers, and instructors, ensuring all materials are accurate, complete, properly version-controlled, and aligned with established standards. Qualifications: Education: A bachelor's degree in education, instructional design, human resources, or a related field is preferred. Instructional Design Experience: 1-5 years experience in instructional design and/or curriculum development is required. Communication Skills: Ability to effectively engage with and understand content provided by subject matter experts, translating technical, soft skills, or industry-specific knowledge into clear, accurate, and instructionally sound training materials. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Technology Proficiency: Microsoft Suite (Advanced PowerPoint/Word), Voice-over narration, Adobe Pro, and Microsoft SharePoint experience required. Adaptability: Ability to adapt training methods and materials to various learning styles and preferences. Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills to address learner challenges and optimize training content. Interpersonal Skills: Effective interpersonal skills for building rapport with learners and collaborating with peers, leader, other functional area, and stakeholders. Attention to Detail: Attention to detail to ensure accuracy in training materials and other deliverables. Project & Time Management: Efficient time management to meet training deadlines and manage multiple training projects.
