Job Summary:

  • This position is a full-time, permanent Communications | College and Careers Teacher at the Whitko Career Academy beginning August 10, 2026. The Whitko Career Academy, in conjunction with Whitko Community Schools, provides a quality Career and Technical Education Program to students.
  • The Whitko Career Academy is seeking an experienced, energetic, engaging professional with a genuine interest in teaching high school students a mix of theoretical and hands-on skills of communications. Major topics includeย public speaking, interpersonal communication, mass media, digital communication, journalism, and professional communication.ย

Instructional topics include:

Introduction to Communications and Preparing College and Careers.

Key areas include:

  • Utilize a curriculum map, plan lessons, deliver assessments, etc,ย ย 
  • Develop and implement standards-based lesson plans aligned with state and district curriculum.
  • Teach courses in communication, public speaking, media literacy, journalism, broadcasting, or related subjects.
  • Foster students' verbal, written, interpersonal, and digital communication skills.
  • Design engaging learning experiences that incorporate technology, collaboration, and real-world communication scenarios.
  • Assess student learning using a variety of formative and summative assessment methods.
  • Provide timely feedback to support student growth and achievement.
  • Create an inclusive, respectful classroom environment that encourages active participation and critical thinking.
  • Integrate current communication technologies, multimedia tools, and instructional resources into classroom instruction.
  • Maintain accurate student records, attendance, grades, and documentation in accordance with school policies.
  • Communicate regularly with students, parents, and administrators regarding student progress and classroom expectations.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, curriculum planning, and school improvement initiatives.
  • The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substances abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the corporation.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
  • Maintain classroom equipment and instructional materials.
  • Meet expectations as assigned by administration

Qualifications:

ย Bachelor's degree in Communications, Education, Journalism, Speech Communication, English, Media Studies

Valid Indiana Teachers License 5-12 or equivalent

Workplace Specialist license in Communications field as detailed below:

Eligibility for the Workplace Specialist I License:

Workplace Specialist I: Initial (Two-year license)

Minimum requirement: High School Diploma. A first applicant must send in a photocopy.

Must be twenty-one (21) years of age

Employment in an accredited educational program to teach in a specific vocational area. If working through the Department of Corrections, the applicant must submit a letter on DOC letterhead indicating that employment will occur if license is obtained.

Occupational experience (Select one):

5,000 hours (about 2.5 years of experience) in the last five (5) years.

Eligibility for the Workplace Specialist I License (continued):

4,000 hours (about 2 years) in the past ten (10) years and demonstration of occupational competency tests.

4,000 hours (about 2 years) in the past ten (10) years and evidence of occupational licensure or occupational proficiency based on approved regional, state, or national board training and evaluation.

4,000 hours (about 2 years) in the past ten (10) years and completion of an accredited 2-year or higher degree in the specific certification area
