This position serves the Department of Electrical Engineering with teaching, service, advising, and establishing a research program involving publications and acquisition of funds, supervision of Master's and Ph.D. students.

The Department of Electrical Engineering at Wright State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The department seeks candidates committed to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education, student mentoring, and scholarly activity.
The successful candidate must have research expertise in signal processing or electromagnetics, including but not limited to areas like radio frequency sensing, Radar technology, electromagnetic spectrum warfare, wireless communication, or RF/MW power devices. Applicants must demonstrate a strong record of scholarly publications in peer-reviewed journals and referred conferences, based on their Ph.D dissertation and subsequent research. Candidates must demonstrate interest in and eligibility to pursue externally sponsored research from federal and state funding agencies, as well as industry partners. Evidence of strong potential to establish and sustain an externally funded research program is required.

Required qualifications include a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative academic environment.

Faculty responsibilities include
  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate course in electrical engineering.
  • Developing and maintaining an active, externally sponsored research program.
  • Advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Providing service to the department, university, and professional community.

The successful applicant will be expected to participate in accreditation activities and contribute to the development of new academic programs, courses, and laboratory facilities in the areas of signal processing or electromagnetics.
Minimum Qualifications
For Assistant Professor the candidate must have:
  • Earned Ph.D. degree by the start date in electrical engineering or a closely related field.
  • Research expertise in signal processing or electromagnetics, including but not limited to areas like radio frequency sensing, Radar technology, electromagnetic spectrum warfare, wireless communication, or RF/MW power devices.
  • Demonstrated potential to establish and sustain an externally sponsored research program.
  • Commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching, advising and mentoring.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative academic environment.
For Associate Professor the candidate must have:
  • Earned Ph.D. degree by the start date in electrical engineering or a closely related field.
  • Established research expertise in signal processing or electromagnetics, including but not limited to areas like radio frequency sensing, Radar technology, electromagnetic spectrum warfare, wireless communication, or RF/MW power devices.
  • Demonstrated record of high-quality scholarly publications in peer-reviewed journals and referred conferences appropriate to the candidate's career stage.
  • Demonstrated national reputation in research, such as evidenced by publications, citations, invited talks, or professional recognition.
  • Demonstrated record of securing, leading, and sustaining externally sponsored research funding from federal agencies, state programs, or industry partners.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching, advising and mentoring.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated record of meaningful service contributions at the department, college, university levels, and/or professional levels.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Postdoctoral or relevant industrial research experience in signal processing, electromagnetics, or related fields.
  • Experience developing or maintaining experimental laboratories related to RADAR, sensing, electronic warfare, communication, or signal processing.
  • Research alignment with reginal or national priorities, including partnerships with industry or government laboratories.
  • Experience supporting accreditation processes (e.g. ABET) or academic program assessment.
Essential Functions and percent of time:
Teaching (50-60%)
  • Teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in electrical engineering, including lecturing, course material development, mentoring senior design students, as well as advising/mentoring graduate students, particularly in the areas of electronics, VLSI, sensor signal processing, and electromagnetics/microwave.
  • The position will provide academic supervision, research mentorship, and professional guidance to undergraduate students, M.S. thesis, and Ph.D. dissertation research, including:
    • Direct supervision of graduate students, serving as primary advisor and committee chair for M.S thesis, Ph.D. dissertation students, and as a committee member for other graduate students.
    • Supervision of undergraduate students.
    • Providing work direction within external sponsored research projects.
    • Supervision and work direction are provided primarily to undergraduate students, M.S. students, and Ph.D. students within the department of electrical engineering, and may also extend to postdoctoral researchers, research staff, and visiting scholars, as applicable

Research (30-45%)
  • Develops a fully funded and active research program; publishes journal papers, conference papers, reports, etc., with the goal of developing into an internationally recognized expert in the faculty member's research area.

Service (5-10%)
  • Provides academic and administrative service to department, college, and university committees.
  • Serves as a reviewer of technical papers and proposals.
  • Demonstrates leadership in one or more professional societies.
  • Participate in curriculum development, departmental and facility improvement programs, recruiting, departmental and college meetings and activities, university committees and official functions.

  • Office and laboratory environment.
  • Some evenings and weekends may be required.
  • 9-month academic contract.
