Golf Course Superintendent

Salary: $85,000 $95,000 + Benefits

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Golf Course Superintendent to lead all aspects of agronomy, course maintenance, and grounds operations at our golf facility located at DoubleTree by Hilton Front Royal.

This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for delivering exceptional course conditions while aligning with the broader guest experience of a full-service hospitality environment. The Superintendent will oversee daily operations, long-term turf health, and team performance to ensure the course consistently meets quality, playability, and aesthetic standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee all aspects of golf course maintenance and agronomic operations, ensuring exceptional turf quality and course presentation
  • Develop and execute annual maintenance plans, budgets, and capital improvement initiatives
  • Manage daily operations including irrigation, fertilization, chemical applications, mowing practices, and pest control
  • Ensure proper mixing, calibration, and application of fertilizers and chemicals in compliance with all regulations
  • Maintain full compliance with local, state, and federal environmental and safety regulations
  • Monitor turf health and course conditions, proactively identifying and resolving issues
  • Lead and develop the grounds team, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management
  • Oversee maintenance of all equipment and coordinate with vendors and service providers
  • Collaborate with hotel leadership to support guest experience, events, and golf operations
  • Implement cost control measures while maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency
  • Provide regular reporting on course conditions, operational performance, and budget adherence
Leadership & Team Oversight
  • Directly supervise team members including:
    • Assistant Superintendent
    • Grounds Crew / Equipment Operators
    • Irrigation Technician
    • Maintenance Staff
  • Foster a positive, team-oriented culture focused on accountability, safety, and continuous improvement
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in golf course maintenance, including experience as a Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent
  • Strong knowledge of turf management, agronomy, irrigation systems, and chemical applications
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, labor, and operational costs
  • Experience leading teams in a hands-on, fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with leadership, team members, and external partners
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree or certification in Agronomy, Turf Management, Horticulture, or related field
  • Experience in a hospitality or resort environment
  • Knowledge of Mid-Atlantic climate and turf conditions
  • Experience supporting event-driven or high-traffic courses
Certifications / Licenses
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Pesticide Applicator License (or ability to obtain)
