Job description

POSITION TITLE: Golf Course Laborer (Seasonal)
DEPARTMENT: Parks, Recreation amp; Civic Facilities
DIVISION: Fairview Golf Course
SALARY: $15.00 hr
CLOSING DATE: Until Filled

Job Summary
To provide general maintenance to golf course including daily routine jobs throughout summer and various projects.
Season is normally from April through November.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs routine daily assignments such as mowing, changing cups, tee markers, dump trash, edge, maintain restrooms.
  • Operates equipment such as green and tee mowers, push mowers and weed eaters, chainsaws, for trimming and mowing on course and parking lots.
  • Performs general operator maintenance on equipment used.
  • Assists in general seasonal repairs such as snow removal, painting, replacing worn parts, dead tree, and limb removal.

Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists in irrigation system repairs.
  • Hand water greens and other areas as needed.
  • May on occasion work with prison work release inmates.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Examples of professional conduct include, but are not limited to, being communicative, informative, fair, honest and respectful. Must wear appropriate attire.
Required (Essential) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Skills in operating small riding mower, weed eaters, push mowers, chainsaws, and other golf course related accessories.
  • Knowledge of basic turf grasses associated with golf course helpful but not required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which will include weekends (limited hours), and holidays.
  • Ability to work around users and to follow instructions to carry out assignments.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License

Material and Equipment Directly Used
Operates a variety of equipment used in routine maintenance, including power amp; hand tools, chainsaws, weed eaters, push mower, green and tee mowers and other related equipment. There may be times when use of personal vehicle may be required.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
Majority of work is performed primarily in an outdoor environment, where weather conditions can vary from extreme heat and cold, with high levels of dust, dirt, fumes and noise. Physical activity includes prolonged standing, bending, stooping, lifting, walking and uses arms and hands frequently. Must have the ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 to 75 pounds and assist in lifting objects weighing in excess of 100 pounds. Vacation and other leave scheduling shall be requested of and approved by the appropriate supervisor.
Education
High School diploma or equivalent required. Experience in lawn care maintenance and/or golf course maintenance beneficial. Or currently enrolled in high school.
All applicants must pass a drug screening and criminal background check prior to employment.
