We are looking for Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to join our amazing healthcare team!

Job Description:

As a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant for our CT Behavioral Health Hospital, you will provide occupational therapy services/treatments, program planning, implementation, related documentation, and communication.ย  This position functions under the supervision of a registered Occupational Therapist.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Under the guidance of a registered Occupational Therapist, performs in all treatments and modalities for clientโ€™s rehab.ย  Maintains in constant communication with registered therapists re: patient progress, issues, or changes to plan of care.
  • Provides updated care plan notes to OT Manager for meetings.ย  Attends conferences as assigned.ย  Updates care plans on a weekly basis.
  • Gives professional input for discharge planning under supervision of a registered Occupational Therapist.ย  Obtains medically necessary equipment prior to discharge.
  • Appropriately utilizes various types of therapeutic interventions including ADL, perceptual exercise, cognitive re-training, sensory integration, retraining and fabrication of orthotic devices.ย  Seeks guidance from OTR/L when clarification is needed and follows through on recommendations.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication on all levels of patient care with therapists, IDT members, and family.ย  Communicates with patients and staff in a courteous, respectful, and supportive manner.
  • Maintains good working relationships with therapists, consultants, and nursing staff.ย  Through personal courtesy, tactfulness, and consideration of others.
  • Documents in a timely manner according to facility policies including but not limited to, progress notes, interdisciplinary notes, care plans, discharge notes.
  • Responsible for achieving and maintaining daily productivity standards. Current standard is 70% (subject to change by Director with written notification).
  • Demonstrate proficiency with basic PC skills and ability to document in the electronic medical record in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for care and economical use of equipment and supplies.ย  Reports any equipment problems to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
  • Participates in timely and appropriate continuing education seminars, literature survey, and professional meetings.
  • Teaches and supervises Occupational Therapy assistant students as required.
  • Monitors on an ongoing basis, assistive devices for safety and good repair.
  • Observes safety precautions in the use of therapeutic modalities.
  • Uses personal protective equipment when using hazardous chemicals.
  • Uses precautions as they relate to infectious waste.
  • Uses proper body mechanics in bending and lifting.
  • Uses proper safety techniques and complies with all safety policies of the organization.
  • Transports patients to and from department.
  • Complies with tardiness, attendance policies, and departmental call-in procedures for HHC.

Qualifications:

  • Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice as a COTA in the State of Connecticut.
  • Associates degree from an accredited college or university with a program for Occupational Therapy Assistant required.
  • Prior experience in healthcare setting preferred.
  • Must be able to lift patients/residents, medical equipment, supplies, etc., >50 lbs.
