Senior Cost Accountant

Richmond, VA or LaPlace, LA | Hybrid | $95,000–$105,000

Atrium Staffing is partnering with one of our manufacturing clients to identify a Senior Cost Accountant to join their Global Cost Accounting team.

This is a high-impact opportunity for an experienced cost accounting professional who wants to partner directly with manufacturing leadership and play a key role in cost accounting, inventory, manufacturing financial reporting, and fixed asset accounting across multiple manufacturing locations.

Important Location & Travel Requirements

• Candidates may be based in Richmond, VA OR LaPlace, LA (LaPlace is located near New Orleans).
• The position requires the candidate to sit onsite at either the Richmond, VA or LaPlace, LA location.
• Regular travel to the other location is required, along with periodic travel to additional manufacturing sites.
• Up to 20% travel may be required.
• Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.

What You'll Do

Manufacturing Cost Accounting

• Serve as the primary cost and inventory accounting resource for assigned manufacturing facilities.
• Maintain standard costs and analyze manufacturing variances, including material, labor, overhead, yield, and production performance.
• Monitor manufacturing costs, identify trends, and uncover opportunities for improvement.
• Partner with plant leadership and operations teams on financial and operational initiatives.
• Develop a strong understanding of manufacturing processes and cost drivers to provide meaningful financial insights.

Inventory Accounting & Controls

• Ensure inventory transactions are accurately recorded in accordance with U.S. GAAP, company policies, and internal controls.
• Perform inventory reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
• Support cycle counts and annual physical inventories.
• Analyze inventory adjustments, reserves, and valuation impacts.
• Partner with operations to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Drive improvements in inventory accuracy, controls, governance, and compliance.

Fixed Asset Accounting

• Serve as a finance liaison for fixed asset activities throughout the asset lifecycle, including acquisitions, capitalization, transfers, and disposals.
• Partner with the Fixed Asset Accounting team on capital project and fixed asset transactions.
• Provide guidance on capitalization policies and fixed asset accounting requirements.
• Support SOX compliance, audits, physical asset verification, and reconciliations.
• Assist with capital project tracking, asset readiness assessments, and fixed asset reporting.

Month-End Close & Financial Reporting

• Prepare and review inventory and cost accounting journal entries and account reconciliations.
• Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities.
• Prepare analysis related to inventory valuation, manufacturing variances, standard costs, inventory reserves, and working capital.
• Provide insights into manufacturing costs, inventory trends, and operational performance.
• Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.

Business Partnership

• Partner with Plant Managers, Operations, Supply Chain, and Finance teams.
• Translate financial and cost information into actionable recommendations.
• Serve as a trusted advisor on manufacturing costs, inventory, and operational performance.
• Communicate financial information effectively to non-financial stakeholders and leadership.
• Support productivity improvement, inventory optimization, quality, and cost-reduction initiatives.

Continuous Improvement

• Support initiatives focused on standardization and best practices across manufacturing locations.
• Help improve inventory and cost accounting processes, reporting, and controls.
• Assist with ERP enhancements, reporting improvements, and automation initiatives.
• Identify opportunities to improve financial reporting quality and operational effectiveness.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
• 5+ years of progressive experience in cost accounting, manufacturing finance, inventory accounting, or a related field.
• Manufacturing experience required.
• Experience supporting plant operations and manufacturing leadership.
• Strong understanding of standard costing and inventory accounting.
• Knowledge of U.S. GAAP related to inventory and manufacturing accounting.
• Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, or similar platforms; SAP experience preferred.
• Experience supporting multi-site manufacturing operations is a plus.
• CPA, CMA, or progress toward a professional certification preferred.
