Job description

About Interstate Civil Construction

Join one of the fastest-growing civil construction contractors in Southern California. At Interstate Civil Construction, we specialize in high-stakes infrastructure projects, partnering closely with Caltrans to deliver excellence in concrete, asphalt, and heavy civil works. We don’t just build roads; we build careers. If you’re looking for a fast-paced environment where your expertise is valued and growth is guaranteed, you’re in the right place.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented  Accounting Manager to join our growing team. In this role, you will be the financial backbone of our active civil construction projects, ensuring absolute financial accuracy from kickoff to closeout.

Unlike a general corporate accountant, you will be deeply embedded in project operations—managing job costing, Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting, progress billings, and subcontractor/vendor accounts payable. The ideal candidate has a razor-sharp eye for project margins, a deep understanding of construction-specific accounting principles, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Job Costing & Allocation: Track, analyze, and allocate all project-related transactions (material bills, labor, equipment, and subcontractor invoices) to the correct jobs and cost codes.
  • Progress & AIA Billing: Prepare and submit accurate monthly progress billings.
  • Work-in-Progress (WIP) Management: Generate and maintain monthly WIP reports, calculating over-billings and under-billings to keep project financials accurate and transparent.
  • Subcontractor & Vendor Compliance: Manage subcontractor AP, verify and track active insurance certificates (COIs), and strictly administer conditional and unconditional lien waivers prior to releasing payments.
  • PM Collaboration: Partner closely with Project Managers and Estimators to review budget-versus-actual reports, manage project cash flow, and flag potential margin fades early.
  • Audits & Financial Closeouts: Maintain pristine job files to assist with annual financial audits, bonding requirements, and official project closeouts.

Qualifications (Requirements)

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following strict criteria:

  • Software Expertise: Absolute, hands-on familiarity and proficiency with Foundation software or similar software.
  • Required Education/Credentials: Must possess a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a highly related business field. Professional certifications (such as CCIFP or CPA) are highly desirable.
  • Work Schedule & Location: This is a full-time, 40-hour per week, strictly in-office position at our local office. Remote or hybrid work is not available for this role.
  • Construction Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of dedicated project accounting or job-cost accounting experience in the construction industry (civil or public works experience is a major plus).
  • Technical Skills: Deep understanding of WIP reporting, progress billing, retainage, and the lien waiver process.
  • Attention to Detail: Exceptional organization skills and a high level of accuracy when managing complex project spreadsheets and compliance documents.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to effectively coordinate with Project Managers, subcontractors, and vendors.

Compensation & Perks

We believe in paying for top-tier talent. This position offers a highly competitive compensation package:

  • Starting Pay Rate: $100,000-$120,000 / year, commensurate with depth of construction accounting experience).
  • Growth Opportunities: We are expanding rapidly, and we prioritize internal promotion and career advancement for those who show initiative.
