The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters!

This position is located at Carteret Correctional Center in Carteret County, NC and houses minimum custody male offenders.

Reporting directly to the Correctional Warden, the Correctional Associate Warden of Operations is responsible for assisting the Warden in the total operations of the facility. Additionally, this position has direct management and supervisory responsibility for the operations of several critical functions to include the general day-to-day and the 24-hour operation of the facility. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.

• Ensure the safety and security of the housing of male offenders housed at a minimum custody correctional institution and ensuring the safety of the staff and general public.
• Working closely with supervisors to provide guidance and direction on prison policies.
• Providing direction and structure for the work of the Correctional Captains, Correctional Lieutenants, Correctional Sergeants Correctional Officers, and support staff.
• During any extended period of absence of the Warden.

Salary Grade Range – $50,088.00 – $87,654.00

The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

Documented skills in supervision and management techniques

Documented knowledge of supportive counseling or treatment programs

Documented knowledge of services available to individuals from the community and other public and private programs

The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.

Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of supervisory, administrative or consultative experience in corrections or related work; OR
