Position Overview:

The Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking a motivated and skilled candidate to serve as the Corrections Food Service Supervisor III at IYC Warrenville.  Under the direction of the Food Service Program Manager, the incumbent will serve as a full line supervisor. Essential Functions:
  • Under direction of the Food Service Program Manager, serves as a full line supervisor.
  • Provides input into food production by directing and initiating maintenance of proper health, sanitation, and safety standards in preparing, serving, and storing foods.
  • Plans, schedules, and publishes menus for general and therapeutic diets.
  • Directs and monitors staff in training youth in food preparation.
  • Serves as Food Services Program Manager in his/her absence.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school.
  • Requires three years of institution food preparation experience such as could be gained as a Corrections Food Service Supervisor I or II, or supervisory experience in a large-scale food service operation.
  • Requires possession of a current Food Service Sanitation Certificate issued by the Illinois Department of Public Health or requires possession of a Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) certification from a program accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Conference for Food Protection (CFP).
Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance):
  • Prefers thorough knowledge of food service sanitation.
  • Prefers extensive knowledge of institutional rules and regulations and requirements for the control of offenders or juveniles.
  • Prefers extensive knowledge of large-scale food service procedures and practices.
  • Prefers extensive knowledge or preparing, serving and acquiring food on a large-scale basis.
  • Prefers working knowledge of health and safety requirements to a large-scale food service.
  • Prefers ability to control and manage large-scale food service operations with efficiency and economy by example and leadership.
  • Prefers ability to interpret the provisions of the Illinois Food Service Sanitation rules and regulations.
  • Prefers ability to maintain satisfactory working relationships with other employees and offenders or juveniles.
  • Prefers ability to instruct and supervise subordinates and offenders or juveniles working in all important food service functions.
  • Prefers ability to keep food service records, conduct inventories, prepare reports and requisition food and other supplies.
Conditions of Employment:
  • Requires the ability to pass an IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
  • Requires completion of an orientation-training course within six (6) months of employment.

About the Agency:

The mission of the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice (IDJJ) is to build youth skills and strengthen families by promoting community safety and positive youth outcomes. Over 900 staff members from across various departments-security, programming, education, mental health, and more-collaborate with the understanding that youth are physically, emotionally, and cognitively different from adults. The department provides extensive services to young people through a developmental, treatment-focused model of care that builds youth resiliency, engages families, and promotes community safety at the five youth facilities it operates across the state. IDJJ serves and houses approximately 150 youth and is responsible for approximately 500 youth on Aftercare in various Illinois' communities.
