Position Overview The Henderson Police Department announces the opening of applications for the position of Corrections Officer. Processing and testing of applicants will occur throughout the year on an ongoing basis. The department is seeking dedicated people of character, courage, conscience, and compassion who are interested in a challenging and rewarding career of service to the citizens and community of Henderson.
The pool of candidates from this recruitment may be used to fill vacancies for the classification of Corrections Officer for up to one (1) year. Under general supervision, performs security work overseeing and directing the activities of inmates within the Detention Center and during transport to other facilities, and performs related duties as required. Upon hire, possess a Nevada or "border state" driver license under conditions defined by Nevada Revised Statute 483.035 Must be a U.S. citizen at the time of application Must be at least 20 years of age at the time of application, and age 21 by the start of the academy. Must have no convictions for offenses greater than a misdemeanor
Must have no convictions for offenses of domestic violence. Visual acuity must be correctable to 20/40 in one eye and 20/30 in both eyes Hearing must be 30 decibels or less for each ear Must successfully complete the Henderson Police Department Academy within the time frame prescribed by the department. Must pass a nationwide fingerprint-based record check, and a wants/warrants check.
Must complete Security Awareness and National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/Nevada Criminal Justice Information System (NCJIS) certification within six months of hire/transfer and be recertified every two years. Must maintain certifications in NCIC/NCJIS as a condition of continued employment. Required Documents/Assessment Information DOCUMENTS REQUIRED AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION: 1) Completed Employment Application 2) Completed Supplemental Questionnaire ASSESSMENT INFORMATION: Step 1: Submit Your Application - Apply by September 15th, 2026, to join us for the February 2027 academy.
Step 2: Written Exam - Must be completed within 14 calendar days of receiving invitation to test. For additional information about the written exam click here Step 3: Physical Fitness Test - Candidates invited to the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) will receive an email notice when it is their time to schedule. PFT dates open two weeks in advance, and scheduling links are sent out to candidates who have passed the written exam (see dates below).
PLEASE NOTE: The Physical Fitness Test (PFT) will only be offered on the dates below. To remain eligible to continue in the selection process, candidates must be available to attend the PFT on one of these dates, as additional testing dates may not be offered. Physical Fitness Test Dates: June: 24th July: 8th, 22nd August: 1st, 12th, 26th September: 12th, 19th, 30th October: 7th *Space is limited, so candidates are encouraged to sign up early.
The requirements to pass the PFT are listed below: Exercise Event Requirement Vertical Jump 11.5 inches Agility Run 23.4 seconds Sit-Ups 24 in 60 seconds Push-Ups 18 (no time limit) 300 Meter Run 82 seconds 1.5 Mile Run/Walk 20 minutes and 20 seconds PLEASE NOTE: Candidates will need to meet the standards shown in the video in accordance with Nevada POST requirements during the academy, the hiring process is based on the requirements listed above.
