Job description

Job Summary:

The Partnership Manager will oversee and provide tax expertise for all partnership tax compliance and planning needs for the Ilitch Companies. Manage multiple partnerships effectively while assuring timely federal, state and local compliance of all required forms. Oversee federal, state and local tax audits and defend positions taken on those audits. This position will have access to proprietary and confidential information on new business developments and must adhere to the strictest confidentiality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and review Partnership Federal and State tax returns and all related filings for complex partnership structures of the Ilitch Companies.

  • Ensure all compliance with federal, state and local tax jurisdictions.

  • Oversee Partnership tax compliance and planning for partnerships, LLC's, joint ventures and multi-tiered entities.

  • Work with external auditors, consultants and legal counsel as it related to partnership tax audits, findings, settlement or litigation.

  • Communicate any tax adjustments to management and update all tax filings, partner capital accounts, and basis allocation.

  • Research and advise on partnership tax issues including allocations, basis, at-risk rules, distributions, other general partnership tax matters, etc.

  • Develop strategies related to the formation of new partnerships and lead tax planning initiatives related to future mergers, acquisitions and dispositions.

  • Stay current on changes in tax law and assess the impact as it relates to Partnerships, LLC's, etc. Communicate any necessary findings to ownership.

  • Supervise, mentor and develop tax staff, providing technical guidance as needed.

  • Identify, develop and implement tax planning strategies and tax efficient structures to minimize tax liabilities and fulfill compliance requirements.

  • Prepare FIN 48 calculation for all applicable Ilitch Companies Partnerships.

  • Assist other tax staff during heavy compliance periods with income tax compliance, or other tax functions as requested.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in taxation, accounting, or finance.

  • Minimum of seven (7) years' experience with a corporate tax department or accounting firm, specializing in partnerships.

  • Highly developed communication skills with the ability to present complex and technical information in verbal or written formats to a variety of internal and external audiences.

  • Ability to read and interpret complex technical information, journals or articles and communicate findings to a variety of technical or non-technical people.

  • Proven project management skills with the ability to manage complex, technical projects with strict deadlines.

  • Strong technical knowledge of partnership taxation and related regulations.

  • Excellent analytical, communication and leadership skills.

  • Evidence of flexibility and ability to adapt to changing priorities and multi-task.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Oracle, and CorpTax, with advanced level Excel skills.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Master's degree in taxation, MBA or CPA preferred.

  • Experience with large complex multi-state partnerships or real estate entities.

  • Familiarity with CorpTax software, CCH and BNA Tax Research software, Yardi, and Oracle a plus.

Working Conditions:

  • Works in a normal office environment where there is no discomfort due to noise, temperature, dust and the like.

  • Exposure to travel conditions by automobile, airplane, or public transportation.
