As Director, Corporate Media Relations, you will report to the head of Media & Public Relations within Enterprise Communications and lead corporate media-relations strategy and execution. The role focuses on issues management, reputation protection, support for corporate functions, financial communications, leadership visibility, community engagement, and high-impact corporate storytelling. You will partner closely with senior leaders and cross-functional teams to deliver consistent, accurate and timely external messaging, respond to media inquiries, develop executive-approved statements, and serve as a company spokesperson.

This role will be based out of the company's Hartford, Connecticut, headquarters on a hybrid basis.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute strategic public-relations plans aligned to enterprise strategy and business leader priorities.

  • Oversee media relations for corporate functions including Tech and DAIO, Finance, HIMCO, Enterprise Risk Management, Sustainability and Community Relations; support quarterly earnings, financial results, investor-related news, and major business updates.

  • Develop messaging and materials, manage outreach, coordinate with senior leaders, prepare executive communications and provide media training and coaching as needed.

  • Create media-relations strategy for Community Relations. Partner with head of Community Relations and other stakeholders to drive impact through earned media and align messaging with enterprise priorities and brand narrative.

  • Develop news releases and talking points; manage executive interviews in support of Community Relations initiatives.

  • Manage media relations for significant issues including litigation, legislation, regulatory changes, real estate, jobs, and catastrophes. Work with journalists and serve as a company spokesperson.

  • Track and analyze media coverage, provide insights to leadership, and contribute to regular reporting. Partner across Enterprise Communications to ensure alignment and integration across channels.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in corporate communications, media relations, journalism, public relations, or a related field, within a large public company or Fortune 500 environment.

  • Proven ability to provide strategic communications counsel to senior executives and C-suite leaders. Experience supporting corporate functions preferred.

  • Strong media-relations experience, including established media contacts and experience working with local, national and trade reporters on complex matters.

  • Ability to translate complex business topics, objectives and issues into clear communications strategy, messaging, and execution plans.

  • Demonstrated success managing multiple strategic communications initiatives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while maintaining quality and sound judgment.

  • Excellent planning, organization, and prioritization skills, with the ability to adapt to changing business needs.

  • Strong interest in topics relevant to publicly traded companies, including corporate strategy, financial performance, business trends, organizational culture, and business-related public policy; financial-services experience a plus.

  • Exceptional writing, editing, proofreading, presentation, and storytelling skills, with the ability to adapt tone and style for varied audiences.

  • Experience using GenAI tools to improve workflow efficiency and understand how earned and owned media may inform AI-generated content about the company and industry.
