Area of Interest: Investment Banking
Business Area: Corporate and Institutional Banking
Pay Range Min: 110,000.00 USD a year
Pay Range Max: 110,000.00 USD a year
Who you are
You’re curious and keen to learn. Don’t worry if you haven’t got a background in finance – what we’re looking for is someone with the ambition to explore it, the drive to make an impact, and the confidence to take on new challenges. If fast-paced environments are your thing, you thrive in a team, and you want to build real-world career experience with support every step of the way – this Graduate Programme could be for you.
Here’s what we’re looking for:
-
Collaboration – You’re a team player who works well with people at all levels – from fellow graduates to senior bankers. You’re reliable, supportive, and ready to contribute to shared goals.
-
Analytical thinking – You enjoy working with numbers, spotting patterns, and paying attention to the details. Whether it’s reviewing data or checking for formatting issues, you’ve got a sharp eye and a methodical approach.
-
Clear communication – You can explain your ideas simply and clearly, whether you’re talking to a fellow graduate or summarising something for a senior team member. You write concise emails and can put together slides that tell a clear story.
-
Resilience – You stay positive under pressure, meet deadlines, and keep a cool head when things get busy.
-
Detail-focused – You’re committed to quality and committed to doing your best work, even when the pace picks up.
-
Ownership – You take responsibility for your tasks. You understand how your work contributes to the bigger picture, and you’re proud to do it well.
-
Relationship building – You’re friendly, professional, and good with people. You enjoy being part of a team and are keen to support the development of strong client relationships alongside more senior colleagues.
What you’ll do
You’ll join a specialist team, working alongside experienced colleagues. You won’t just be watching from the sidelines – you’ll be learning by doing, contributing to meaningful work, taking on responsibilities and developing skills that will stay with you throughout your career.
Here’s what you’ll get involved in:
-
Impact from day one – You’ll work closely with a team focused on specific transactions, products or business sectors. You’ll also collaborate with banking teams across the globe to help find solutions for clients, including corporates, private equity firms, and financial institutions.
-
Experience different areas of investment banking – You’ll be placed in either Strategic Advisory, Corporate Finance or Financing Solutions depending on where your interests and our business needs align.
-
Work on live deals – See how real transactions happen in real time, and support work that makes them happen.
-
Build your understanding of financial statements – Learn how to read balance sheets, spot anomalies, and calculate key ratios using your accounting knowledge (or develop it with support if you’re new to it).
-
Create client materials – Assist in researching market conditions and preparing documents like investment memos, management presentations, and pitchbooks – the materials we use to support and advise our clients.
-
Explore how financial models work – Learn how models are used to value businesses, analyse mergers and acquisitions, and assess different types of financing. You’ll develop an understanding of techniques like discounted cash flow and leveraged buyouts.
-
Conduct research and credit analysis – Track what’s happening in the market, dig into company performance, and contribute to the creation of internal insights and client-facing materials.
-
Develop your technical toolkit – You’ll sharpen your Excel and PowerPoint skills by building error-free models and putting together polished, client-ready presentations.
What you’ll learn
We’ll support you with all the training and development you need to succeed. Your journey will typically begin with any local regulated training and exams. This is followed by our Global Graduate Induction, where you’ll train alongside your graduate peers. The induction provides you with an overview of HSBC, as well as an opportunity to build a global network of graduates and business colleagues, which will prove invaluable as your HSBC career unfolds. Once you’ve completed the Global Graduate Induction, you’ll take part in a global tailored training programme to build both the technical understanding and professional capability required for your role.
Eligibility criteria
To be eligible, you must:
- Be available to work full time for 2 years commencing July 2027
- Be available to join us in person for onboarding, beginning the first Monday in June 2027
- Have obtained, or expect to achieve, a minimum GPA of 4.0/5.0 or 3.2/4.0 (or overseas equivalent, as shown on your official university transcript/degree certificate)
- Be fluent in English
- Be legally permitted to work in the USA for the full duration of the graduate programme and beyond the graduate programme end date, without requiring HSBC visa sponsorship, now or in the future
We only accept one application per recruitment cycle so please take time to explore our opportunities before applying as we may not be able to transfer your application to other vacancies.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and we may close this vacancy earlier than the advertised closing date if we receive a high volume of applications. Please apply as soon as possible to be considered.
Structured onboarding: In week one, you’ll take part in a tailored training programme that builds both your technical understanding and professional skills.
Our purpose – Opening up a world of opportunity – explains why we exist. Here at HSBC we use our unique expertise, capabilities, breadth and perspectives to open up new kinds of opportunity for our more than 40 million customers. We’re bringing together the people, ideas and capital that nurture progress and growth, helping to create a better world – for our customers, our people, our investors, our communities and the planet we all share.
As an HSBC employee, you will have access to tailored professional development opportunities to ensure you have the right skills for today and tomorrow. We offer a competitive pay package in a welcoming and inclusive work environment. You will be empowered to drive HSBC’s engagement with the communities we serve through an industry-leading volunteerism policy, a generous matching gift program, and a comprehensive program of immersive Sustainability and Climate Change Initiatives. You’ll want to join our Employee Resource Groups as they play a central part in life at HSBC, including the development of our employees and networking inside and outside of HSBC. We value difference. We succeed together. We take responsibility. We get it done. And we want you to help us build the bank of the future!
