Job description

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Equipment and Instrument:
    • Records daily, weekly maintenance of all instruments
    • Vitek Automated System Bact. ALERT-environmental safety hood
    • Performs date back up in required laboratory instrument(s) (e.g. bact-alert and Vitek Automated Scipten)
    • Changes saline and tips as needed for Vitek Automated Septen
    • Replenishes print out paper and ribbon in printer device in the laboratory
  • Materials and Supplies:
    • Maintains inventory of all media, reagents and supplies for the department.
    • Prepares weekly media order for vendors
  • Administrative and other:
    • Orients and trains new or less experience personnel
    • Answers telephone and takes messages
    • Reviews pending report to look for missing specimens and test results.
    • Trouble shoots for test(s) not entered in our data system.

SKILLS|EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Graduate or equivalent and minimum 1 year of clinical laboratory experience.
  • Must have the ability to work in a fast paced environment, effectively interacting with other personnel.
  • Strong interpersonal skills sufficient to work closely with others on a team.
  • Must possess speed, consistency and accuracy in meeting the laboratory standard of performance.
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility in work environment, performing a variety of changing tasks.
  • Be able to concentrate and committed to the task assigned.
  • Display a high level of cognitive, interpretive or judgment skills in troubleshooting instruments.
  • Have documentation of training appropriate to ensure that the individual has all the following skills and abilities:
    • Proper specimen collection appropriate to the test ordered: i.e. specimen requirements for lab test(s)
    • The skills required for performing basic preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of lab instruments.
    • A working knowledge of reagent stability and storage
    • Awareness of the factors that influence test results
    • Skills required to assist the CLS in the operation of fully automated instruments.
