THE POSITION

The VP of Sportsbook Product Engineering will play a critical role in leading our product engineering teams to deliver rapidly incremental customer value. You will lead a talented team of engineers responsible for building a next-gen customer experience that powers America's #1 Sportsbook, including personalized experiences, live betting experiences, generosity, searching and navigation, social and other innovative features. This role requires a fast-paced technology leader that puts the customer first, using their strong leadership and communication skills to work product leadership and drive their teams to deliver customer value every two-weeks. The capacity to make decisions fast, through a blend of strategic thinking, technical expertise and a bias for action is key.

In addition to the specific responsibilities outlined above, employees may be required to perform other such duties as assigned by the Company. This ensures operational flexibility and allows the Company to meet evolving business needs.

In this role, you will develop and execute the strategic vision for the Sportsbook product engineering organization, ensuring it aligns with the overall Sportsbook Product and Technology Strategy and FanDuel business objectives. Collaboration with executive leadership, Product and Sportsbook Core Engineering is crucial to define goals, metrics, and ways of working. You will lead, mentor, and inspire a team of engineers, fostering a culture of fast-paced innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Attracting, retaining, and developing top engineering talent is key to building a high-performing and motivated team. 

You will oversee the design and development of innovative sportsbook customer experiences. Ensuring the teams are operating with a customer-first mindset, delivering quality and performant experiences that bring something new to the customer every two weeks is essential. Implementing best practices for engineering, including continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD), monitoring, and incident response, is critical to maintain operational excellence during peak betting events and live sports. 

You will partner with Sportsbook Core Engineering leaders to ensure high availability, performance, and security of sportsbook services with a focus on minimizing downtime during critical sporting events and managing technical debt. The platform must handle massive traffic spikes during major sporting events while maintaining sub-second response times for bet placement and settlement. 

You will also collaborate with the Sportsbook Core Engineering leaders to support on complex changes to the systems and architecture and to prioritize architecture and service evolution that allows your teams in product engineering to deliver autonomously faster and better customer value. 

Collaboration and communication are fundamental to this role. You will work closely with product management and other cross-functional teams to understand requirements and deliver solutions that meet our business goals. Communicating Sportsbook product engineering plans, progress, and outcomes to stakeholders ensures transparency and alignment. 

Staying abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes is vital to drive innovation and competitive advantage in the sports betting space. You will evaluate and implement new tools, technologies, and processes to enhance sportsbook customers experience with innovative, performant and intuitive features. 

You will manage the Sportsbook product engineering budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources, and investment in strategic initiatives. 

  • Develop and execute the strategic vision for the Sportsbook product engineering organization, aligned with the overall Sportsbook Engineering strategy 
  • Collaborate with Sportsbook Core Engineering and Sportsbook Product team to define sportsbook product engineering goals, metrics, and ways of working

  • Oversee the design and development of innovative and performant customer experiences

  • Support Sportsbook Core Engineering in driving compliance with gaming regulations and security standards across all sportsbook systems.

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. 
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on product engineering and delivering customer value. 
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in a senior engineering role, such as Director or VP of Engineering. 
  • Proven experience with leading geographically dispersed teams 
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and API design. 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing engineering teams that can deliver incremental customer value every two weeks.

The applicable salary range for this position is $267,000 - $356,000 USD, which is dependent on a variety of factors including relevant experience, location, business needs and market demand. This role may offer the following benefits: medical, vision, and dental insurance; life insurance; disability insurance; a 401(k) matching program; among other employee benefits. This role may also be eligible for short-term or long-term incentive compensation, including, but not limited to, cash bonuses and stock program participation. This role includes paid personal time off and 14 paid company holidays. FanDuel offers paid sick time in accordance with all applicable state and federal laws.
