Job description

We're looking for a seasoned, full-funnel Lead Copywriter to join our growing Creative Marketing team in Baltimore, MD. If you're a multi-disciplinary writer with a passion for financial services (or similar highly regulated industry) and a track record of crafting clear, compelling, human-centered work across digital experiences - we'd love to meet you.

In this role, you'll help shape the voice of OneMain Financial across the customer journey, from brand storytelling through to UX copy. You'll bring a strong portfolio that showcases your skills in brand identity, email, social content, and product writing. You'll collaborate with creative leadership, marketers, product teams, and stakeholders to create experiences that are clear and conversion-driven, reflect deep awareness of our customers' financial realities, and drive both business- and customer-oriented solutions.

To thrive in this role, you should be excited to dig into the weeds of copy projects, possess the ability to simplify complex ideas, and demonstrate the agility to collaborate with design, product, and UX teams in an iterative environment. Your contributions at OneMain will be instrumental in positioning our brand as a leader in the evolving digital lending space.

In the Role

  • Partner with marketing managers, creative directors, designers, and key stakeholders to craft copy that elevates the brand proposition across channels
  • Write compelling, on-brand content across email, mobile, social, and other key touchpoints in the customer journey
  • Translate strategic goals and customer insights into clear, engaging copy that supports both business outcomes and user needs
  • Collaborate with UX teams to ensure language enhances the customer experience and aligns with OneMain's voice
  • Contribute to and help evolve copy standards, voice guidelines, and messaging systems for consistency across platforms
  • Lead and participate in concept development - from big ideas to button copy - with a willingness to iterate quickly and thoughtfully
  • Help steward the creative process from concept through execution, ensuring final work is polished, purposeful, and brand-right
  • Act as a champion for OneMain's brand voice within the organization, advocating for clarity, empathy, and creativity in every message

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree and 7+ years or equivalent of diverse writing experience; preferably writing for conversions in an e-Commerce environment or for B2C products
  • Working knowledge of design tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD) and familiarity with user-centered design principles and accessibility standards
  • Adept at connecting all phases of the user journey (marketing/loyalty and user web flows)
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment working with cross-functional teams
  • Strong communication, problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Solid presenter who can explain copy rationale and best practices
  • Creative thinker with a solid portfolio that showcases range, creativity and strong writing
  • Able to turn around copy efficiently and effectively, taking feedback and adapting copy to fit changes
  • Able to provide constructive feedback and effectively manage personal deadlines
  • Expert understanding of marketing campaign development and the various mediums and channels to execute a campaign: print, video/film, social, digital marketing, email, promotions, e-commerce, retail, wholesale
  • Demonstrated experience translating complex UX/UI concepts into clear, user-friendly documentation, including design systems, component libraries, email workflows, and interaction patterns
  • Strong collaboration skills with product designers, UX researchers, and front-end developers to ensure accuracy and usability of content across digital platforms
  • Proficiency in documenting wireframes, user flows, prototypes, and usability guidelines to support both design and development teams
  • Ability to write for several audiences at once
  • Ability to take responsibility for all copy management and delegation on complex projects concurrently
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment

Preferred:

  • Experience working with financial companies and a strong understanding of the user journey for financial applications
  • Video scripting experience
  • Experience writing and developing creative in-house for a brand preferred

Location: Baltimore, MD Hybrid In Office Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Baltimore MD: Target base salary range is $85,000-$110,000, which is based on various factors including skills and work experience. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for a competitive compensation program that is based on individual and company performance.
