Description
Summary:
The Title IX Coordinator shall be responsible for ensuring compliance with Alabama A&M University's Title IX Policy and Procedure, in an effort to prevent discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct, and retaliation claims in the work and learning environment. The coordinator shall facilitate and guide the University's training efforts and provide guidance for Deputy Title IX coordinators, investigators, and hearing officers.
Examples of Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate and consult with the Deputy Coordinators regularly to monitor and manage Title IX incidents to ensure an efficient and effective response to reports and complaints
  • Serve as the investigator for cases alleging race, color, and /or national origin discrimination, sex-based discrimination, sex-based harassment, sexual assault, sexual misconduct, relationship (dating) violence, stalking, and retaliation/intimidation.
  • Interview the impacted party, respondent, and relevant witnesses. Gather relevant evidence. Act as a neutral party through all aspects of the investigation and ensure a prompt, fair, and neutral process for all parties. Advise impacted parties and respondents of their rights. Maintain a high level of confidentiality during all proceedings.
  • Ensure well-documented Title IX or other compliance investigative processes. Maintain accurate and thorough records and notes of investigatory processes. Create comprehensive written investigative reports for the Deputy that clearly identify the issues investigated, summarize the evidence, and make findings under University policy.
  • Provide periodic, timely updates regarding the status of complaints received and investigations in progress to the Deputy.
  • Collaborate with the Deputy Coordinator to identify and address any systemic problems that impact Title IX compliance. Work with other university stakeholders to ensure policies are communicated to all constituencies.
  • Assist Coordinator with the development and implementation of comprehensive university Title IX training programs for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Assist Coordinator with the development, implementation and maintenance of a case management database to organize, manage, and track all Title VI and Title IX incidents.
  • Identify and integrate promising practices in the Title IX investigation arena into knowledge base and practice. Stay abreast of regulations and statutes relating to gender-based violence, including but not limited to Title IX,
  • Create and facilitate the delivery of training/presentations to the campus community regarding the university's nondiscrimination policies and identifying and integrating best practices into the complaint resolution process.
  • Utilize electronic record-keeping systems and produce reports using those systems.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

Typical Qualifications
Minimum Position Requirements (including years of experience, certifications, licenses, etc.):
  • Bachelor's degree and 2 years of direct experience or 4 years of relevant experience required.
  • Experience working in higher education strongly preferred.

Supplemental Information
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Significant experience conducting trauma-informed, fair investigations of alleged discrimination based on race, color, national origin and/or sex, including sex-based harassment, sexual assault, relationship violence and stalking, is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge, experience, and training in handling issues related to gender-based violence.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Title IX and other applicable laws and regulations is required.
  • Knowledge of best practices as they relate to institutions of higher education compliance with Title IX
  • Ability to manage multiple, on-going and complex caseload of Title VI and Title IX-related incidents and complaints.
  • Effective project management, organization and analytical skills.
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills with an emphasis on education and training for a variety of constituencies.
  • Strong written analytical and communication skills.
  • Ability to guide, advise and support the training and learning process with respect to Title IX compliance.
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, the ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated the ability to work with a wide range of constituencies (staff, students, faculty, parents, administrators) with diplomacy and tact.
  • Maintenance of professional qualifications through on-going training and professional development.
  • Ability to act independently, take initiative, and exercise sound judgment.
