Roman Catholic Director of Music / Organist-PianistPosition Overview

The Roman Catholic Director of Music / Organist-Pianist provides musical leadership and accompaniment in support of Roman Catholic worship services conducted at Edson Range Chapel aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. The position supports the Command Religious Program by ensuring high-quality music ministry that enhances worship services, special religious observances, and funeral ceremonies in accordance with Roman Catholic traditions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide piano and/or organ accompaniment during weekly Roman Catholic worship services.
  • Lead congregational singing and support the musical elements of the Mass.
  • Perform music for special religious observances and holy day services throughout the year.
  • Provide musical support for military funeral services as requested.
  • Coordinate with the Command Chaplain regarding music selections, service schedules, and worship requirements.
  • Submit weekly hymn and song selections for inclusion in worship bulletins.
  • Maintain awareness of the condition of government-furnished musical instruments and report maintenance needs.
  • Participate in periodic meetings with chapel leadership to evaluate and improve the music program.
  • Ensure continuity of services by coordinating an approved substitute when necessary.
Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience providing music support for Roman Catholic worship services.
  • Proficiency in piano and/or organ performance.
  • Ability to sing and lead congregational worship.
  • Ability to read and interpret sheet music and four-part musical scores.
  • Knowledge of Roman Catholic liturgical traditions, hymns, and worship practices.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and coordinate effectively with chapel staff.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience serving as a church musician, music director, accompanist, or worship leader.

Work Schedule
  • Primarily Sundays between approximately 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM.
  • Additional services during designated holy days, special observances, and funeral ceremonies as required.
  • Schedule may be adjusted based on chapel requirements and mission needs.
