ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Cook’s Assistant on our food services team, you will support the preparation, assembly, and delivery of safe, nutritious meals for clients, staff, and visitors. Working under the direction of the Food Services Supervisor, you will assist with meal tray assembly, portioning, catering set-up, and general kitchen duties while adhering to strict sanitation, safety, and infection prevention standards.

WHAT YOU BRING

Education/Experience:

  • Must possess a minimum of two years food service experience relative to an institutional kitchen
  • Current Safe Food Handling Certificate (must be kept up to date)
  • Prior experience in catering production, including assembling and preparing catering food trays.
  • Demonstrated experience working with therapeutic diet restrictions in coordination with food production teams.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Familiarity with preparing and coordinating various diet texture modifications in a food production setting
  • Position involves physically demanding tasks, including lifting and moving hot, heavy items (up to 15 kg) and standing for prolonged periods
  • Must have an understanding of Occupational Health and Safety, HACCP
  • Must be able to work comfortably in a team environment
  • Must have good oral and written communication skills
  • Must be able to adequately read and write English
  • Demonstrated regular attendance at work

Assets:

  • Basic cooking skills are considered an asset
