Job description

Spring Island is a private, environmentally conscious costal community in South Carolina, recognized for its commitment to preservation, understated luxury and exceptional member experiences. The culinary program reflects these values through a focus on seasonal ingredients, refined techniques, and a consistent standard of excellence.

General Definition of Work

The Spring Island Club Line Cook reports directly to the Executive Chef/Sous Chef(s) and is responsible for the precise preparation and execution of menu items across multiple stations. This position requires a disciplined approach, strong attention to detail and the ability to perform effectively within a collaborative and professional kitchen environment.

Qualified candidates must demonstrate the ability to take direction, maintain a positive and proactive attitude, work cohesively within a team and uphold the highest standards of food quality and presentation.

Key Responsibilities

The following functions are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed.  The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.

  • Prepare, season and cook a variety of foods including soups, seafood, meats, vegetables and desserts for both a la carte and banquet service
  • Execute recipes with consistency, accuracy and attention to presentation standards
  • Operates efficiently across multiple stations including grill, sautĂ©, pizza and garde manger
  • Evaluate food quality throughout preparation by tasting, observing and verifying proper cooking techniques
  • Assist with butchery, baking and pastry as needed
  • Maintain proper food handling, storage, labeling and rotation in compliance with food safety standards
  • Ensure all workstations and equipment are kept clean, organized and sanitized
  • Contribute to a professional and team-oriented kitchen culture
  • Adhere to all company policies and culinary standards
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform in a fast-paced kitchen environment
  • Capable of lifting 50 pounds
  • Comfortable working in hot, humid and high-volume conditions
