Job description

TITLE:  Assistant Team Leader

POSITION OBJECTIVE: The Assistant Conversion Team Leader supports the Conversion Team Leader by providing hands-on training, technical assistance, and day-to-day production support within the conversion department. This role focuses on developing operator skills, assisting with troubleshooting and machine performance, and ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and production standards. The Assistant Conversion Team Leader serves as a working leader on the floor, helping maintain consistent run time, minimizing downtime, and supporting continuous improvement efforts.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior experience operating conversion or bag-making equipment required
  • Working knowledge of bag-making processes, quality standards, and machine operation
  • Experience assisting with training, coaching, or mentoring in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to follow and reinforce SOPs, SOCs, and safety requirements
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to provide clear, respectful instruction
  • Basic troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify mechanical or process-related issues
  • Team-oriented, dependable, and self-motivated
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, shifts, or overtime as required
  • Ensure consistent, dependable attendance and demonstrate a willingness to accommodate non-standard work hours as necessary.
  • Capable of effectively managing job-related stress and fostering productive workplace interaction

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with hands-on training for new and existing employees on equipment operation, safety procedures, and production standards
  • Reinforce consistent application of company processes, quality expectations, and safety requirements
  • Support the Conversion Team Leader in observing operator performance and identifying training needs
  • Provide coaching, retraining, or additional guidance to operators as directed
  • Assist in maintaining training checklists and documentation to ensure compliance
  • Provide floor-level support to machine operators to help resolve minor mechanical or process issues
  • Respond quickly to machine stoppages, jams, or defects to help restore optimal line speed
  • Assist with machine setups, startups, and changeovers to minimize downtime
  • Support continuous machine operation, contributing to a minimum of 11.5 hours of run time per shift
  • Monitor line speeds and production flow, reporting slowdowns or recurring issues to the Team Leader
  • Perform routine checks to help maintain consistent product flow and prevent bottlenecks
  • Assist in documenting downtime events, causes, and corrective actions for OEE tracking
  • Identify trends related to speed loss, quality defects, or inefficiencies and communicate findings
  • Support implementation of process improvements and updated work practices
  • Serve as a role model by consistently following safety, quality, and efficiency standards
  • Ensure all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Standard Operating Conditions (SOCs) are followed during production
  • Provide feedback to leadership when procedures appear outdated due to equipment or process changes
  • Work closely with the Conversion Team Leader, supervisors, maintenance, and operators to support daily production goals
  • Escalate complex or recurring issues appropriately
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management
