Job description

FIRE ANALYST
SALARY:Minimum: $73,371.00 per year Maximum: $102,939.00
**Position will typically hire at minimum pay and follow a step progression to maximum**
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under general limited supervision, this position will provide statistical analysis, research, evaluation and planning related to Fire Department managerial and operational programs including grant management, regulatory compliance and accreditation. The Fire Analyst performs professional level, individual work in research, project or program design, and the preparation of reports and presentations for review. Duties are generally technical and may include some administrative functions including conducting studies and surveys, interpreting data, coordinating the gathering of information and data, policy development, creation of requested reports for grant compliance and operational evaluations.
TYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (See online job posting for complete specs)
  • Provides oversight and assist with administration of day-to-day activities associated with AFG, SAFER, FP&S and various state and federal program grants.
  • Assist with planning, budgeting and reporting of local, state and federal funds. Ensures compliance with various grant program reporting requirements.
  • Ensures compliance with federal regulations concerning local, state and federal grants.
  • Assist with the ongoing monitoring and evaluation of loans and grants in the Fire Department, including both services and capital projects, for contract and regulatory compliance.
  • Performs research and statistical analysis of Fire Department performance at the department, division and/or bureau level. Utilize data to provide the Fire Administration reports which: benchmark against other comparable agencies, provides performance reports, evaluates allocation and utilization of resources, forecasts demand and procedural impacts and provides program and policy recommendations.
  • Drafts narrative, statistical and graphic reports and participates in the preparation of group presentations, detailing analysis, evaluations, alternate action plans, and recommended courses of action for presentation to management.
  • Provides reports, statistics and related operational information and materials for grant administration.
  • Attends various meetings to coordinate information and works with the IT Department to determine the best suited technology-based systems for Fire Department data analysis needs.
  • Support analysis using tools like Network Analyst, Spatial Analyst, and Business Analyst. Partner with internal teams to ensure GIS outputs align with the department's data needs.
  • CAD + RMS integrated model: Merge datasets and support database conversion to improve reporting reliability.
  • Manages and administers the Fire and EMS RMS to ensure complete and accurate reporting of response data and accurate data with other government record collection programs.
  • Proficient knowledge of accounting principles and budget management.
  • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance, including attendance at required meetings.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING REQUIRED:
Bachelor's degree and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
LICENSING REQUIRED:
  • Valid State of Michigan Driver's License
