What is a conversational AI internship?

A Conversational AI Internship is a temporary position that allows students or recent graduates to gain hands-on experience working with technologies related to conversational artificial intelligence, such as chatbots, virtual assistants, and natural language processing (NLP) systems. Interns typically support teams in tasks like designing conversation flows, training AI models, conducting research, and testing dialogue systems. The internship provides practical skills in programming, machine learning, and human-computer interaction and serves as a gateway into the fast-growing field of AI-driven communication.

What skills and qualifications are needed for a conversational AI internship?

To thrive as a Conversational AI Intern, you need foundational knowledge in computer science, natural language processing (NLP), and programming languages such as Python, along with enrollment in or completion of a relevant degree program. Familiarity with machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch), chatbot development platforms, and APIs is often expected. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and effective communication help interns collaborate and learn quickly in a dynamic environment. These capabilities are crucial for developing, testing, and refining AI-driven conversational systems that meet user needs.

What types of projects can I expect to work on during a conversational AI internship?

As a Conversational AI intern, you will typically be involved in projects such as designing and training chatbots, improving natural language understanding models, and analyzing user interactions to enhance the conversational experience. You may collaborate with data scientists, software engineers, and UX designers to develop prototypes, conduct user testing, and iterate on model performance. These projects often provide hands-on experience with machine learning frameworks, data preprocessing, and dialogue management systems, giving you practical skills highly valued in the AI industry.

What is the difference between Conversational Ai Internship vs Chatbot Developer Internship?

Job description

The AWS Event Technology Team (ETT) is at the forefront of delivering exceptional event experiences for our customers. We design, build, and support a cutting-edge platform that empowers marketers to create and manage thousands of virtual and in-person events annually, from large-scale conferences like re:Invent to smaller events.
Join our Event Technology Mobile App team as a Software Development Engineer and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of AI-driven event experiences. You will spearhead the development and enhancement of our world-class personalization and AWS Events Mobile App, ensuring a seamless and engaging experience for attendees worldwide. Collaborate closely with AWS global marketing stakeholders, providing innovative tools, governance, and operational support to drive AWS growth and elevate attendee experiences to new heights.
Key job responsibilities
As an SDE II, you will design, build, and operate a multi-agent conversational AI system powered by Amazon Bedrock that serves 500,000+ attendees across 45+ AWS events annually. You will own end-to-end feature delivery across the full stack - React Native mobile frontend, serverless backend services (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB), and LLM orchestration layer - with direct accountability for performance, reliability, and quality at scale. Your work includes architecting real-time streaming protocols for sub-second response delivery, building data-driven feedback systems that measure and improve AI response accuracy across specialized agent domains, and developing intelligent push notification infrastructure with context-aware delivery. You will define and instrument operational metrics to drive continuous model and system improvements, contribute to system design reviews for high-traffic scenarios (re:Invent scale: 50K+ concurrent users), and partner with product, design, and applied science teams to evaluate new LLM capabilities and agent orchestration patterns. You will mentor junior engineers and interns, raise the engineering bar through code reviews and documentation, and own operational excellence - writing runbooks, designing for graceful degradation, and maintaining high availability during peak event periods.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Experience with Android, iOS or other mobile application development or testing
- Experience with building multi agentic orchestration workflows with AI
