Field Service Engineer – Automation & Controls (Macomb, MI)
Travel: 40%–60% in the first year, then 15%–20% once established (typically after 2–3 years)

Role Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Field Service Engineer with a strong background in industrial automation and controls to support the installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of advanced automated manufacturing equipment.
This is a hands-on, customer-facing technical role with a clear growth path into a Site Manager-level leadership position. You will act as the on-site technical expert, supporting customer maintenance teams while partnering closely with engineering and project stakeholders to ensure successful system performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair complex industrial control systems including PLCs, CNC controllers, drive systems, and industrial networks
- Commission new automated equipment at customer sites, ensuring full system functionality and performance validation
- Perform preventative maintenance, machine upgrades, and emergency service support
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation
- Use diagnostic tools (multi-meters, software tools, etc.) to identify and resolve electrical/control issues
- Provide operator and maintenance training to customer teams
- Interface directly with customers, suppliers, and internal engineering teams to ensure project and service alignment
- Maintain compliance with safety policies and procedures at all times
- Additional duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in industrial automation, field service, or controls engineering
- Strong troubleshooting experience with PLCs, CNC systems, and industrial controls
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings
- Experience with commissioning and servicing automated manufacturing equipment
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools and control system troubleshooting
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in the field
- Excellent customer communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Ability to work extended shifts or weekends when required
- Must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements (U.S. Person as defined by 22 C.F.R.)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in aerospace manufacturing or high-precision automated assembly environments
- Familiarity with Siemens automation and controls systems
- Knowledge of GD&T and blueprint reading standards
- Understanding of machining and automated manufacturing processes
- Ability to learn and adapt to new automation software and technologies quickly
- Strong organizational, planning, and multitasking abilities
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically while executing in a hands-on environment
