Responsibilities
Howmet Fastening Systems (HFS) is seeking a Controls Engineer in our Fullerton, CA location.
The person in this position will be part of the Machine building team that is responsible for design and manufacturing of new and rebuilt machines to support HFS facilities worldwide. This group is responsible for the implementation of projects to upgrade existing equipment and systems, coordinates and supports custom machine building projects and assists in the selection, procurement and installation of our new custom equipment to support HFS manufacturing process.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, manage and maintain control systems (i.e. Distributed Control System, Programmable Logic Controller). Perform all work and conduct oneself in a manner that promotes safety of the individual and all other employees.
  • Troubleshoot, make necessary repairs or upgrades, and perform preventative maintenance and service to process control equipment, control systems, equipment calibration, and instrumentation equipment to provide for the reliable operation of this equipment. Investigate problems, analyze for root causes, and derive resolutions.
  • Collaborate with engineers, purchasers and other staff members involved in the production processes including reviewing instrumentation and control related documents to mechanical, electrical and process equipment technical specifications and vendor drawings of equipment and prepare comments and recommendations.
  • Participate in installation and startup and commissioning activities to assist personnel in systems checkout and commissioning, including any control system programming modifications, coordinating with the control system suppliers and coordinating resolution to problems within other disciplines.
  • Ensure that the instruments and controls comply with all internal and external health and safety regulations and requirements.
  • Develop best practices to improve production capacity, quality, and reliability.
  • Stay current with product specifications, engineering technology and production processes.

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
  • 3+ years manufacturing related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • Experience in automation and or fabrication

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Prefer a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering, from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of (3) years of experience with control systems (i.e. Distributed Control System, Programmable Logic Controller); Allen Bradley PLC's and Siemens HMI's (touch panel, IPC).
  • Basic understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, including hydraulic, pneumatic, and control systems.
  • Experience with industrial robots (e.g., Fanuc) and Vision systems.
  • Experience of electrical design with the ability to read, write and design using AutoCAD and or SolidWorks electrical software.
  • Experience troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance and service to industrial process control equipment.
  • Work with and train technicians on proper wiring connections, basic programming, and basic system protocols.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, and vendors.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
