Controls Engineer I
Position Summary:
In this role the Controls Engineer I is responsible for supporting the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of control systems for manufacturing and industrial processes. This individual will work closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to assist in automation projects, troubleshoot control systems, and ensure optimal equipment performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the design and development of control systems using PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA platforms
- Support programming, testing, and debugging of automation systems
- Collaborate with senior engineers to implement control system solutions for new and existing equipment
- Troubleshoot electrical and control system issues to minimize downtime
- Participate in system commissioning, startup, and validation activities
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and specifications
- Assist in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system efficiency, reliability, and safety
- Work with cross-functional teams including mechanical, electrical, and production staff
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
- Experience in controls, automation, or a related internship/co-op
- Basic knowledge of PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar)
- Familiarity with HMI/SCADA systems
- Understanding of electrical systems, control theory, and industrial automation concepts
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Internship or hands-on experience in manufacturing or automation environments
- Exposure to robotics, motion control, or machine vision systems
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, Profibus, etc.)
- Experience with AutoCAD Electrical or similar design tools
