Job description

LTC Technician / Technical Trainer

Location: Dallas, TX 75247
Schedule: MondayFriday, 6:00 AM2:45 PM
Pay: $31.00/hour
Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced LTC Technician / Technical Trainer to support in-house operations involving Load Tap Changer (LTC) assembly, overhaul, electrical testing, troubleshooting, and controls systems.

This position will serve as a technical subject matter expert and trainer, providing hands-on technical support while developing and delivering training for internal employees, technical personnel, and customers. The ideal candidate has strong experience with power transformers and LTC systems, excellent troubleshooting abilities, and the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.

Key ResponsibilitiesLTC Technical Operations
  • Assemble, disassemble, repair, and overhaul new and existing Load Tap Changers.

  • Perform electrical and mechanical testing, including:

    • Hi-Pot

    • TTR

    • Ductor

    • Megger

  • Maintain required clearances, dimensions, and tolerances for applicable voltage classifications.

  • Troubleshoot and perform root-cause analysis of LTC mechanical, electrical, and control systems.

  • Verify circuit breaker controls, alarms, CT wiring ratios and polarity, CCVT/PT wiring, and LTC control systems.

  • Test and verify fan, pump, alarm, and sudden-pressure relay systems.

  • Verify electrical and mechanical safety interlocks.

  • Read and interpret schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and control drawings.

  • Perform circuit tracing and drawing mark-ups to document as-built or modified conditions.

  • Support oil-processing activities and best practices related to LTC systems.

Technical Training
  • Develop and deliver technical training for:

    • Assembly and operations teams

    • Engineers and service personnel

    • External customers

  • Provide classroom instruction, hands-on demonstrations, laboratory exercises, and failure-analysis training.

  • Develop and maintain presentations, SOPs, work instructions, training manuals, and job aids.

  • Evaluate trainee competency through practical evaluations, knowledge checks, and skills demonstrations.

  • Standardize best practices and serve as a technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) for LTC systems.

Documentation & Continuous Improvement
  • Prepare technical reports, test reports, training records, and equipment condition assessments.

  • Support initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, and training effectiveness.

  • Provide technical recommendations to Engineering, Quality, and Operations.

  • Assist with process and design improvements.

Cross-Functional Support
  • Collaborate with Operations, Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Components, Sales & Marketing, and transformer manufacturing facilities.

  • Support customer visits, audits, demonstrations, and technical discussions.

  • Represent company technical capabilities during customer training and demonstrations.

Required Technical Experience

Candidates should have demonstrated proficiency in the following areas:

  1. LTC Assembly New Builds

  2. LTC Overhaul & Refurbishment

  3. Electrical Testing & Diagnostics

  4. Controls Systems, Interlocks & Alarms

QualificationsRequired
  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Minimum 5 years of industry-specific experience with power transformers and LTC systems.

  • Utility, OEM, or service experience within Power Transmission, Distribution, or Generation.

  • Experience preparing technical reports.

  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.

Preferred
  • Technical certification or diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, or Electromechanical disciplines.

  • Previous experience training or mentoring technical personnel.

  • Experience working with multiple LTC manufacturers; experience with at least 3 manufacturers is preferred.

Knowledge & Skills
  • Advanced LTC repair and maintenance expertise.

  • Strong understanding of electrical testing theory and control systems.

  • Knowledge of protection, instrumentation, and transformer auxiliary systems.

  • Ability to interpret and modify technical drawings.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication.

  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts to individuals with different levels of experience.

  • Strong presentation and training skills.

Physical & Work Environment
  • Primarily facility-based work in workshops and training laboratories.

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods.

  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to operate tools and light machinery.

  • Occasional customer or inter-plant support with minimal travel compared to field positions.

Additional Requirements
  • Valid Drivers License.

  • Must successfully pass a background check and drug screening.

  • Must comply with all company safety, quality, and operational policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily sanitation tasks across the warehouse and office areas

  • Clean and disinfect workstations, restrooms, break rooms, and common areas

  • Sweep, mop, and maintain floors and high-traffic zones

  • Follow GMP procedure

  • Remove trash and recyclables

  • Operate cleaning tools and equipment safely

  • Follow sanitation and safety protocols to support a healthy work environment

  • Assist with additional cleaning duties as assigned


Requirements

  • Previous Food Manufacturing Warehouse Sanitation experience required (office and warehouse sanitation preferred)

  • Must pass a federal background check (no misdemeanors or felonies)

  • Must pass a drug test

  • Ability to work the scheduled hours with weekend flexibility

  • Ability to lift, bend, stand, and perform physical tasks throughout the shift
