Job Summary
We are seeking an Automation Controls Engineer to design, program, and support automation systems across our manufacturing operations. This role focuses on PLC programming, system integration, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of automated equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable production.
Key Responsibilities
Controls Design & Programming
  • Develop, program, and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, and motion control systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.).
  • Support integration of robotic systems (Fanuc, ABB, KUKA, Yaskawa) and automated equipment.
  • Create and maintain electrical schematics, control narratives, and functional specifications.

System Integration & Support
  • Assist with installation, commissioning, and startup of automated equipment.
  • Work with vendors and integrators during system builds, FAT, and site acceptance.
  • Interface with MES/SCADA systems and plant networks (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, OPC UA).

Troubleshooting & Maintenance
  • Diagnose and resolve controls-related issues on the production floor.
  • Provide ongoing support to minimize downtime and improve system reliability.
  • Implement and maintain safety systems in compliance with standards.

Continuous Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to improve cycle time, efficiency, and equipment performance.
  • Support data collection and basic analysis to improve OEE and reduce waste.
  • Participate in process improvements and equipment upgrades.

Collaboration
  • Work closely with manufacturing, maintenance, and engineering teams.
  • Support technicians and operators in resolving automation-related issues.
  • Contribute to a practical, hands-on engineering culture focused on problem-solving.

Minimum Qualifications
  • B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Controls Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • 3-7+ years of experience in industrial automation or controls engineering.
  • Experience with at least one PLC platform (Allen-Bradley or Siemens preferred).
  • Familiarity with industrial robotics and automated systems.
  • Basic understanding of industrial networking and communication protocols.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with HMI/SCADA systems.
  • Exposure to machine vision or advanced automation systems.
  • Experience in manufacturing environments (automotive, aerospace, or similar).
  • Strong troubleshooting and hands-on problem-solving skills.
