Job description

POSITION PURPOSE

Guardian Energy Management is searching for an accounting & finance leader and key member of the management team. Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller will function both tactically and strategically to maximize return on assets by establishing and maintaining financial policies, procedures, controls, metrics and reporting, and providing analysis for decision making. This position is a key member of the organization’s collaborative, “roll-up-the-sleeves” leadership team.


AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Tactical

• Assumes responsibility for operations and integrity of all finance and accounting systems including general ledger, treasury, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, credit and inventory including those located at the managed facilities.

• Manages the preparation, maintenance and timely delivery of regular financial planning reports, including monthly board reports and annual financial statements.

• Develops tools and systems to provide critical financial and operational information to the CFO and leadership team.

• Manages, leads, and develops accounting team including three accounting managers located at the plants.

• Develops, maintains, and utilizes a documented set of accounting policies and procedures, transaction processing operations and control systems.

• Monitors bank covenants and compliance thereof and communicates related information to the CFO on a timely basis.

• Oversees the development of the annual budget and forecasts and provide budget to actual results as requested.

• Interfaces with department leaders to prepare, analyze, integrate, consolidate and track information.

• Develops, calculates and delivers reports reflecting financial and operating metrics, including benchmarking analysis conducted by the Company.

• Oversees accounts payable to ensure timely and accurate payment is made and ensures accounts receivables are collected promptly.

• Oversees payroll processing assuring accuracy and timeliness and oversees and reviews all monthly reconciliations.

• Ensures debt and distribution payments are accurate and timely.

• Manages cash management processes by maximizing returns and limiting risk.

• Maintain and ensure fixed asset listings are up to date and accurate.

• Coordinates and oversees annual audit across all entities.

• Assumes responsibility for all transactions that are handled within the accounting department with an expectation of complete accuracy.

• Maintains a sound control environment that provides for the safeguarding of assets and reliability of financial records, by developing and ensuring adequate accounting internal controls have been established and are being utilized.

• Maintains company’s financial stability and integrity through sound decision-making, accuracy, and timeliness

Strategic

• Establishes and implements short and long-range departmental goals and objectives.

• Continually assesses and evaluates opportunities for providing additional data to assist operations and leadership team in decision-making processes.

• Establishes and ensures systems are developed and utilized to ensure proper maintenance of all accounting systems, functions, controls and procedures.

• Ensures systems are maintained in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards.


QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business, or other related field.

• At least six years accounting experience in private or public industry as Controller, Assistant Controller or Senior Accountant which included general ledger, cost accounting, budget management, financial reporting, payroll, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.

• Experience in manufacturing, construction, and/or engineering environment.

• Strong organizational and time management skills, and attention to detail is a must.

• Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and/or projections.

• Experience preparing budgets.

• Professional written, verbal and interpersonal skills.

• Energy and drive to deliver objectives on time and accurately.

• Able to handle multiple tasks and maintain control and order over same.

• Strong work ethic and time commitment to organizational success.

• Self-directed individual with initiative and flexibility.

• Demonstrated success working with people at all levels in the organization, with a commitment to working on cross-functional teams.

• A disposition and approach to relationships and work which is open, honest, trustworthy and fair.

• Able to manage company and financial information with discretion and in a confidential and professional manner.

• Knowledge of and ability to use various computer programs utilized in fiscal management including spreadsheet, word processing and presentation software.

Preferred:

• Experience with Microsoft Great Plains accounting software

• CPA or MBA
