Overview:

The Unifi Ubiquiti Installation Technician is responsible for the design, installation, configuration, and maintenance of Ubiquiti network and wireless systems for commercial, educational, and residential environments. This role ensures robust connectivity, optimal network performance, and seamless integration of Unifi hardware and software solutions, including access points, switches, gateways, cameras, and network controllers.

Key Responsibilities:

Network Installation & Setup

  • Install, configure, and deploy Ubiquiti Unifi networking equipment including access points, routers, gateways, switches, cameras, and bridges.
  • Plan and implement complete Unifi systems from the ground up, including cabling infrastructure, power management, and network segmentation.
  • Perform structured cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, fiber) terminations, testing, labeling, and verification for network performance.
  • Mount and align wireless devices and antennas for optimal coverage and signal strength.

Configuration & Integration

  • Configure Unifi Network Controllers (Cloud Key, Dream Machine, or Unifi OS Consoles) for multi-site management.
  • Set up VLANs, SSIDs, guest networks, QoS, and security settings to meet client-specific requirements.
  • Integrate Unifi Protect, Access, and Talk systems into existing network infrastructures.
  • Implement remote management, monitoring, and troubleshooting via Unifi Cloud services.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting

  • Perform diagnostics and resolve connectivity, latency, and interference issues.
  • Conduct site surveys and heatmap analyses to identify optimal equipment placement and performance tuning.
  • Upgrade firmware and maintain all Ubiquiti devices to current and secure versions.
  • Provide ongoing system monitoring and technical support to clients on-site and remotely.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Create detailed network diagrams, configuration notes, and installation documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of installed hardware, IP addressing schemes, and configurations.
  • Prepare post-installation reports outlining system performance and recommendations for improvements.

Client Support & Collaboration

  • Work directly with clients to understand networking needs and deliver tailored Ubiquiti solutions.
  • Collaborate with IT staff, electricians, and contractors to ensure proper integration of systems.
  • Train clients or end users on network management, device usage, and maintenance procedures.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Proven experience with Ubiquiti Unifi hardware and software ecosystems.
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, VLANs, VPNs, NAT, routing, and switching).
  • Proficiency in network design, configuration, and wireless optimization.
  • Experience with Unifi Controller, Unifi Protect, and Cloud Key systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, blueprints, and network layouts.
  • Knowledge of PoE devices, UPS systems, and structured cabling standards.
