Job description

Blue Canyon Technologies, RTX's small satellite manufacturer and mission services provider, is solving some of the toughest challenges in space. Our components and bus platforms have completed missions ranging from very-low Earth orbits to lunar and interplanetary journeys at a fraction of the cost of traditional space systems. Position Purpose: Blue Canyon Technologies is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to join our growing company. This person will work independently under the direction of the BCT Chief Financial Officer. This position will lead a talented group of accounting professionals to ensure established accounting policies and procedures are followed. The Controller oversees accounting functions and demonstrates expertise in company-wide systems and processes. The Controller is responsible for ensuring monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting in compliance with US GAAP and requirements from the parent company.

Pay Range: $165,000 - $245,000
(Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
On-site position at our Lafayette, CO location (work locations are subject to change based on business need).

Job Responsibilities:
  • Manage all aspects of corporate accounting operations including: accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger accounting, cash/treasury management, tax management
  • Oversee the month-end, quarterly, and annual financial close process. Plan and execute according to priorities and understanding of transaction cycles.
  • Oversee timely and accurate trial balance reporting and filing deadlines.
  • Assist with implementation of ERP and improving functionality for new accounting functions.
  • Maintain knowledge in US GAAP, Federal Acquisition Regulations, Cost Accounting Standards (CAS). Research technical accounting topics and propose solutions.
  • Critically evaluate accounting problems and questions, and confidently propose solutions, after considering GAAP, company policies, company Disclosure Statements, and assessed risk. Communicate solutions appropriate for the audience.
  • Establish and maintain internal controls and procedures in compliance with policies, inclusive of parent company policies and procedures.
  • Independently identify, evaluate, and implement improvements to company accounting practices, internal controls, efficiency and reporting to increase productivity. Communicate thoroughly with other BCT employees and others outside the company in this process.
  • Supervise accounting professionals. Assign responsibilities appropriately in accordance with experience and skill set. Complete annual written evaluations of direct reports.
  • Complete special projects as determined by CFO and BCT senior executives.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Supervisory Duties:
  • Plan, organize, and oversee the work of employees engaged in a variety of accounting functions.
  • Manage remote employees effectively.
  • Train and support career development for direct reports.
  • Review and evaluate performance, recommending compensation increases and/or disciplinary action for direct reports.
  • Train direct reports and staff on accounting procedures, policies or technical accounting topics as needed.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledgeable in applying US GAAP, inclusive of revenue recognition standards
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting and job-costing
  • Ability to research technical accounting and government contract compliance questions.
  • Ability to think critically, analyze a problem, and propose solutions
  • Knowledge of payroll processing and related laws
  • Ability to communicate effectively: phone, email, chat, in person, or remote using business English, spelling, punctuation, and grammar
  • Ability to quickly learn new software systems, changes to laws, regulations, and new policies
  • Ability to develop and review complex Excel spreadsheets including pivot tables and formulas
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Self-motivated, proactive, team player
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet tight deadlines

Required Qualifications/Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required
  • CPA is required
  • 10+ years of progressively more responsible, relevant experience is required.
  • Direct, hands-on experience with implementation and operation of Company-wide ERP computer systems is required.
  • Experience with managing and training people is required.
  • Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education.

Additional Qualifications
  • Knowledge of US GAAP, Federal Acquisition Regulations, and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) is required.
  • Experience and skills in government contract accounting, manufacturing accounting, job costing, and SOX compliance are highly desired.
  • Knowledge of Defense Federal Acquisition Regulations is desired.

Working Conditions:
This job operates in a professional office environment, but in a manufacturing company. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines. BCT anticipates the application window closing approximately 40 days from the date the notice was posted. However, factors such as candidate flow and business necessity may require BCT to shorten or extend the application window.
