WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING (ESSENTIAL DUTIES) ...
The Controller at Newport Mental Health ensures accuracy, compliance, and strategic financial stewardship across multiple funding streams, including federal SAMHSA grants, state contracts, Medicaid reimbursements, and private grants. This position is a hands-on position requiring a deep understanding of financial principles, compliance regulations, and a commitment to the mission of the center.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
โ€ข Oversee day-to-day accounting operations.
โ€ข Manage and bill all federal, state, and private grants.
โ€ข Ensure allowable cost compliance, time & effort documentation, and procurement standards under Uniform Guidance.
โ€ข Monitor grant burn rates and proactively advises on spending adjustments.
โ€ข Collaborate with program managers to ensure accurate tracking of funds and adherence to grant requirements.
โ€ข Work with Billing Manager on monthly Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial billing to ensure accuracy and compliance with CCBHC billing models.
โ€ข Monitor reimbursement trends, payer mix, and revenue cycle KPIs.
โ€ข Prepares finance CCBHC cost reporting.
โ€ข Serve as the primary contact for annual audits, including Single Audit.
โ€ข Ensure compliance with GAAP, federal and state regulations, and CCBHC certification standards.
โ€ข Stay informed about changes in financial regulations and industry's best practices.
โ€ข Develop and implement financial plans, budgets, and forecasts in collaboration with VP of Finance and executive leadership.
โ€ข Provide training and support for staff on financial systems and processes.
โ€ข Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
โ€ข Encourage professional development and continuous improvement among team members.
โ€ข Collaborate with other departments to ensure financial information is accurate and supports organizational goals.
โ€ข Communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders in a clear and understandable manner.
โ€ข Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU...
โ€ข Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
โ€ข Proven experience (7+ years) in a management role, preferably in behavioral health, healthcare, or nonprofit organizations.
โ€ข Familiarity with CCBHC financial requirements, Medicaid billing, and cost reporting.
โ€ข Experience managing federal grants, Single Audits and multi-fund grant environments.
โ€ข Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting (FASB).
โ€ข Proficiency with complex accounting systems Blackbaud, MIP, and Microsoft Office.
โ€ข Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
โ€ข Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
โ€ข Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, grant-funded environment.
