Job description

Overview

About Certara

Certara accelerates the potential of bringing medicines to market and to patients using biosimulation software, technology, and services to transform traditional drug discovery and development. Our clients include more than 2,400 biopharmaceutical companies, academic institutions, and regulatory agencies across 70 countries.

Our goal is to enable the life sciences industry's use of data, modeling, and analytics to make better decisions across the various phases of discovery and drug development. Our software and scientists incorporate modern advances in scientific understanding, drug development experience, data analysis, and AI resulting in significant opportunities to decrease the cost and increase the probability of success for new drug approval and commercialization.

As Certara continues to grow, our Finance organization plays a critical role in translating that growth into clear, accurate, and timely information - both for the leaders who run the business day to day and for the investors and regulators who rely on our public filings. We're looking for a Manager, Financial Reporting who can move comfortably between both worlds: building the internal management reporting that helps leadership make decisions, and preparing the external SEC reporting that keeps us compliant, transparent, and audit-ready.

Position Summary

This is a dual-mandate role. You'll split your time between the mechanics of quarterly and annual SEC filings and the ongoing rhythm of internal management reporting - supporting board and executive decks, monthly financial packages, and KPI reporting used across the business. You'll work closely with Accounting, FP&A, SEC reporting, and the Business Unit finance leaders, and you'll be a key contributor to how Certara tells its financial story, internally and externally.

Responsibilities
SEC & External Reporting
  • Provide support schedules for and review the Company's periodic SEC filings (10-Q, 10-K, 8-K, proxy materials), including financial statements, footnotes, and MD&A
  • Coordinate the quarterly and annual close and reporting timeline with Accounting, FP&A, Legal, and external auditors to ensure filings are accurate and on schedule
  • Monitor emerging SEC and FASB guidance, assess impact on Certara's reporting, and help implement process to support new disclosure requirements
  • Support the external audit process, including responding to auditor requests and resolving open items
Internal Management Reporting
  • Coordinate with controllership and FP&A on the preparation of monthly and quarterly management reporting packages, including variance analysis versus budget/forecast and prior periods
  • Partner with FP&A to build reporting used in board and leadership meetings, translating financial results into clear, decision-ready narratives
  • Develop and maintain recurring KPI and BU reporting used by business unit and corporate leadership
  • Identify opportunities to streamline and automate recurring reporting processes, including consolidation and reporting tools
  • Serve as a liaison between the accounting close process and the business, ensuring management reporting reconciles cleanly to the general ledger and external filings
Cross-Functional & Process
  • Help maintain internal controls (SOX) relevant to the financial close and reporting cycle
  • Support ad hoc projects such as acquisition integration reporting, new accounting standard implementation, and process improvement initiatives
  • Act as a point of contact across Accounting, FP&A, and SEC Reporting to keep internal and external reporting consistent

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA strongly preferred??
  • 5-8 years of progressive experience in accounting or financial reporting, with meaningful exposure to SEC reporting (public company or Big 4/public accounting background preferred)
  • Working knowledge of US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements; exposure to XBRL a plus
  • Experience building or contributing to internal management reporting, board materials, or KPI dashboards
  • Strong Excel skills; experience with ERP and consolidation/reporting tools (e.g., NetSuite, Workiva, OneStream, Hyperion, or similar) a plus
  • High attention to detail balanced with the ability to translate numbers into a clear story for non-finance audiences
  • Comfortable managing multiple deadlines across a quarterly close/filing cycle and a monthly management reporting cycle simultaneously
  • Strong communication skills and experience working cross-functionally with Legal, FP&A, and external auditors
