As an Assistant Controller, you’ll step into a role with meaningful visibility, trusted leadership, and the ability to directly influence how accounting work is performed.

This is an environment where accounting leadership is respected, decisions are made efficiently, and improvement is encouraged. The Assistant Controller role offers both professional stability and the chance to make a real operational impact.

Culture & Role Highlights

The Assistant Controller will join a collaborative, straightforward, and supportive accounting team. Leadership values people who are proactive, organized, and comfortable taking ownership of their work.

  • Stable, profitable, privately held business with long-term leadership continuity

  • Accounting department designed for accountability, clarity, and development

The Opportunity

This Assistant Controller position is ideal for a hands-on accounting leader who enjoys managing people while staying close to the work. Key Responsibilities for the Assistant Controller

  • Walk through and oversee the month-end close process, including journal entries and accrual accounting
  • Manage, coach, and develop three direct reports; push work to appropriate levels while remaining hands-on
  • Standardize, document, and automate accounting templates and SOPs for staff and management
  • Oversee accurate execution of basic accrual accounting and closing procedures
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and consistency

Qualifications for the Assistant Controller

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (preferred)
  • Strong technical accounting background with solid accrual accounting expertise
  • 3–5+ years of people management experience with a hands-on leadership style
  • Experience with Great Plains or similar ERP systems (Dynamics / Business Central)
  • Demonstrated ability to create, document, and implement processes and SOPs
