Control Panel information

What are control panel operators?

Control panel operators are professionals responsible for monitoring and controlling machinery and equipment using control panels, often in manufacturing, utilities, or industrial settings. They ensure that systems operate efficiently and safely, adjusting controls as needed to maintain specified parameters. Their duties may include starting or stopping equipment, responding to alarms, and troubleshooting issues to minimize downtime. Control panel operators play a critical role in keeping production processes running smoothly and adhering to safety standards.

What is the difference between Control Panel vs Electrical Technician?

AspectControl PanelElectrical Technician
CredentialsTypically requires technical training or certification in electrical or control systemsRequires electrical certifications, technical training, or an associate degree in electrical technology
Work EnvironmentDesign, assemble, troubleshoot, and maintain control panels in industrial or manufacturing settingsInstall, repair, and maintain electrical systems and equipment in various industrial, commercial, or residential environments
Industry UsageCommonly used in automation, manufacturing, and process control industriesUsed across electrical, manufacturing, maintenance, and industrial sectors

The main difference is that a Control Panel specialist focuses on designing, assembling, and troubleshooting control panels used in automation systems, while an Electrical Technician handles broader electrical systems and equipment maintenance. Both roles require electrical knowledge and certifications but differ in scope and daily tasks.

What jobs pay $500,000 a year in the US?

Control panel jobs typically do not pay $500,000 annually; such high salaries are usually associated with executive roles, specialized medical professionals, or successful entrepreneurs. High-paying positions often require advanced skills, extensive experience, and sometimes ownership or leadership of large organizations. Most control panel-related roles, such as technicians or operators, have lower salary ranges.

What are some common challenges faced by Control Panel Technicians, and how can they be managed on the job?

Control Panel Technicians often encounter challenges such as troubleshooting complex wiring issues, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and working under tight project deadlines. Successfully managing these challenges requires keen attention to detail, a strong understanding of electrical schematics, and effective communication with design engineers and project managers. Staying organized, following standardized procedures, and proactively collaborating with team members can help technicians efficiently address issues as they arise and maintain high-quality outcomes.

What jobs pay $10,000 a week?

High-paying jobs related to control panels typically include specialized roles such as senior electrical engineers, automation engineers, or project managers in industrial settings, often requiring advanced skills, certifications, and experience. These positions may offer weekly earnings of $10,000 or more, especially in industries like oil and gas, manufacturing, or large-scale infrastructure projects. Such roles usually involve complex technical knowledge and leadership responsibilities.

What jobs pay $10,000 a month without a degree?

Control panel technicians and related roles in fields like industrial automation or electrical systems can sometimes pay $10,000 or more per month, especially with specialized skills, experience, and certifications. High-paying opportunities often exist in industries such as manufacturing, energy, or construction, where technical expertise and on-the-job training are valued over formal degrees.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Control Panel Technician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Control Panel Technician, you need a solid understanding of electrical systems, wiring diagrams, and panel assembly, typically supported by a relevant technical diploma or certification. Proficiency with tools such as multimeters, wiring tools, PLC programming software, and knowledge of safety standards like NEC is essential. Attention to detail, problem-solving, and effective communication are standout soft skills in this role. These skills ensure safe, precise, and efficient assembly and troubleshooting of control panels in industrial settings.

What jobs pay 2000 a day?

High-paying jobs related to control panels often include specialized roles such as industrial automation engineers, electrical engineers, or project managers in manufacturing or energy sectors, which can sometimes pay $2,000 or more per day for experienced professionals. These roles typically require advanced technical skills, certifications, and extensive experience, and may involve working on complex systems or overseeing large projects. Such high daily rates are usually associated with consulting, contract work, or senior-level positions in technical fields.

Job description

Lead Control Panel Designer

Location: Estero, FL
Schedule: Full-Time | Monday–Friday

Role Overview

We are seeking a Lead Control Panel Designer/Engineer with strong experience in UL508A industrial control panel design to support the full lifecycle of control systems for fuel management applications. This role is heavily focused on electrical design, panel layout, and standards compliance, with involvement from concept through production and field support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop UL508A-compliant industrial control panels, including schematics, layouts, and wiring diagrams
  • Perform control panel load calculations, component sizing, and proper circuit protection selection
  • Select and specify components (breakers, relays, PLCs, power supplies, etc.) in accordance with UL and NEC standards
  • Create and manage AutoCAD Electrical drawings, including panel layouts, schematics, and bills of materials
  • Develop complete panel documentation packages (BOMs, wiring diagrams, nameplate details, and labeling requirements)
  • Ensure designs meet UL508A, NEC, and customer-specific requirements
  • Support panel builds and production teams, including reviewing builds, resolving design issues, and providing technical guidance
  • Develop and execute factory testing procedures (FAT) for control panels and systems
  • Program and support PLC-based control systems (ladder logic / function block) for OEM equipment
  • Generate system documentation, including sequences of operation, installation manuals, and technical instructions
  • Drive continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives in panel design and component selection

Required Qualifications
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field) or 5+ years of relevant control panel design experience
  • Strong hands-on experience with UL508A control panel design and compliance
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical for schematic and panel layout development
  • Solid understanding of NEC, UL standards, and industrial control panel best practices
  • Experience performing load calculations, short circuit current ratings (SCCR), and component selection
  • Working knowledge of PLC programming (ladder logic / function block)
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and produce accurate, on-time deliverables

Preferred Experience
  • Direct experience with UL508A certification processes and panel shop environments
  • Familiarity with PLC platforms such as:
    • Rockwell (CompactLogix)
    • Siemens (LOGO!)
    • Unitronics (UniStream)
    • WAGO (Codesys)
  • Experience supporting panel fabrication, testing, and commissioning
  • Understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles

Why This Role
  • High-impact role focused on true engineering design—not just support
  • Direct involvement in UL508A panel builds from concept through production
  • Opportunity to influence standards, design practices, and product improvements
  • Collaborative environment with strong cross-functional exposure

Benefits
  • 401(k)
  • Medical, Dental, Vision Insurance
  • Paid Time Off

If you’re a Controls Engineer who thrives in control panel design, UL compliance, and hands-on engineering, this role offers the opportunity to own and shape critical systems from the ground up.
