Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Python Engineer based in Netherlands.

As a Python Engineer, you will contribute to the development of high-performance backend applications that support advanced genomic analysis and precision healthcare technologies. Working within a collaborative, distributed engineering team, you will design and enhance scalable web platforms, APIs, and backend services used by researchers and healthcare professionals worldwide. This role offers the opportunity to work with modern Python technologies, participate in architecture discussions, and deliver reliable, production-grade software in a fast-paced environment. If you enjoy building robust backend systems, collaborating across disciplines, and solving meaningful technical challenges, this position provides both technical growth and real-world impact.

Accountabilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications and server-side logic using Python and Django technologies.
  • Enhance and support core web platforms, APIs, and backend services while ensuring high performance and reliability.
  • Build, maintain, and optimize RESTful APIs to support seamless communication between frontend and backend systems.
  • Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, testing, and performance optimization initiatives.
  • Collaborate closely with frontend engineers, product managers, and domain experts to deliver high-quality end-to-end features.
  • Contribute to deployment, monitoring, operational support, and shared on-call responsibilities when required.
  • Ensure code quality through unit, integration, and functional testing while following software engineering best practices.
  • Take ownership of assigned features from design through implementation, testing, and delivery.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • At least 3 years of professional experience developing backend applications with Python, Django, and Django REST Framework in production environments.
  • Strong understanding of software design principles, backend architecture, and engineering best practices.
  • Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs.
  • Solid knowledge of relational databases, with experience using MariaDB considered a strong advantage.
  • Experience implementing unit, integration, and functional testing to ensure software quality.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
  • Collaborative, adaptable mindset with a willingness to work across multiple technologies and responsibilities.
  • Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform, Ansible, Bootstrap, React, or similar technologies is considered a plus.
  • Interest in bioinformatics, genomics, or healthcare technology is highly valued.
