Job description

We are seeking resumes for an Environmental Engineer in our Valdosta, GA. Paper Mill.

The Environmental Engineer is responsible for managing all facets of air compliance to ensure that compliance with State and Federal regulations is maintained. The engineer assists the Environmental Manager in strategic planning with emerging regulatory initiatives, day-to-day environmental compliance, and preparing various permit applications and regulatory reports.

Principle Accountabilities:

Ensure that pulp, power, paper, and all support operations comply with all applicable environmental State and Federal permits and laws.

Consult with engineering on capital planning and project implementation for process modifications or upgrades.

Assess the need for permitting on projects involving process changes.

Implement/communicate to affected operating departments permit conditions and compliance programs for new regulations, including training, recordkeeping, and compliance task scheduling.

Prepare and provide operating department management compliance training.

Work with team on air issues with environmental agencies regarding data integrity, quality assurance matters, compliance testing plans/results/reports, site inspections, and permit compliance issues.

Prepare applications for permit issuance or modification and lead negotiations with regulators on new permit terms and conditions.

Oversee the mill's new chemical approval process and Safety Data Sheet Management.

Manage required reports, including records retention.

Prepare other environmental regulatory reports.

Support other environmental areas as needed with reporting, inspections, contractors, etc.

Attend training programs as necessary.

Support the Mills' goals for safety, environmental, and other areas of need.

Effectively manage jobs for the best result at the lowest cost.

Look for opportunities to solve issues, reduce costs, and improve planning performance.

Solve problems utilizing the mill's RCFA program.

Effectively manages contractors for performing jobs.

Performs other responsibilities as needed.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in physical science, environmental engineering, environmental science, chemical engineering, pulp & paper science, chemistry, or equivalent education and experience required.

A minimum of 1 -2 years’ experience, or the equivalent, in industrial Environmental Engineering.

Experience using Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Parc View, 

Successful completion of drug screen required and authorization to work in the U.S.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Pulp & Paper industry experience preferred.

An understanding of industrial air pollution, pollution control measures, and current air quality regulations, water, wastewater, stormwater, waste/landfill, hazardous waste, radioactive materials, CERCLA, EPCRA, and SPCC is strongly desired.
