At Fuze Health, we put patients first and tirelessly address the most pressing needs in healthcare. We empower millions to digitally connect with care providers, essential health resources and needed treatments โ€“ and enable care providers, employers, health plans and life sciences companies to meaningfully enhance quality, outcomes and value. We are dedicated to helping our partners evolve and modernize to meet emerging patient and marketplace needs. Fuze Healthโ€™s foundation is built upon the strategic combination of several proven, technology-powered innovators in the digital health, diagnostics, and pharmacy sectors. Our growing portfolio brings together the capabilities of industry leaders including LetsGetChecked, Truepill, and Alto Pharmacy, to create a distinctive, unified force in healthcare. Together, we have the shared vision, advanced capabilities and talented teams to deliver nextโ€‘generation solutions that patients and healthcare partners need today and into the future.

Job Description

We are actively recruiting for a Staff Software Engineer. As a Staff Software Engineer at FuzeRx, you are a principal technical leader within our technology organization, responsible for defining the architectural evolution, technical strategy, and engineering standards of our digital pharmacy platforms. Being on the Platform Team, your primary responsibility will be creating leverage through increasing developer productivity and system stability. This is a highly technical individual contributor (IC) role. You will serve as a force multiplier across multiple agile squads, tackling our most complex distributed systems challenges and ensuring our API-driven pharmacy platform is secure, highly scalable, and resilient. By blending deep technical expertise with a strong understanding of healthcare systems, you will directly influence how millions of patients access vital medications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Leadership & Architecture: Define the long-term technical vision and architectural roadmap for FuzeRxโ€™s B2B and consumer platforms. Drive decisions around microservices design, API design, database schemas, and data pipelines.
  • Engineering Excellence & Code Quality: Lead by example by writing clean, highly optimized, and maintainable code for critical system components. Establish engineering standards, champion rigorous code reviews, and advocate for modern testing practices.
  • System Scalability & Performance: Own the reliability and performance of our core platforms. Diagnose and resolve complex systemic issues, optimize heavy PostgreSQL workloads, and architect high-throughput infrastructure on AWS.
  • Cross-Squad Force Multiplier: Act as a technical consultant and mentor to engineers across multiple squads. Break down ambiguous, massive technical problems into actionable execution phases that junior and senior engineers can successfully deliver.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Product Managers, Pharmacy Operations, and Engineering Managers to evaluate technical feasibility, deโ€‘risk complex roadmaps, and align technology choices with business objectives.
  • Security & Compliance Safeguarding: Architect systems with privacy by design. Ensure our codebase, dataโ€‘atโ€‘rest, and dataโ€‘inโ€‘transit adhere strictly to healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA, SOC2), safeguarding sensitive patient data.
  • Innovation & R&D: Evaluate emerging technologies, frameworks, and patterns. Build prototypes and proofsโ€‘ofโ€‘concept (POCs) to derisk new initiatives before they are rolled out to the wider engineering team.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelorโ€™s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Technical Experience: 8+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, with at least 2+ years acting as a Tech Lead, Architect, or Staff Engineer designing complex systems.
  • System Design Background: Proven track record of designing, building, and scaling high-volume APIโ€‘led transactional or logistical platforms.
  • AI Fluency: Experience building LLMโ€‘enabled applications including the use of orchestration, evaluation, and observability tools (e.g. LangGraph, Mastra, Temporal, LangChain, Vercel AI SDK, Braintrust, Langfuse)
  • Relational DB Mastery: Strong relational database skills including query optimization and data modeling
  • Infrastructure Proficiency: Knowledge of cloud native infrastructure tools such as Terraform, Kubernetes, and Helm
  • Communication & Influence: Exceptional ability to articulate complex architectural tradeโ€‘offs to both highly technical engineers and nonโ€‘technical stakeholders (e.g., clinical, product, and operational leaders).
  • Crossโ€‘functional Expertise: Demonstrated success collaborating with partners across the business (e.g. Product Management, Design)
  • Shift / Site Specific Requirements: Standard business hours; available for critical tier-3 escalation architecture support if needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Programming Languages: Significant history of product development with Ruby, Python, and/or TypeScript/JavaScript.
  • Industry & Domain Experience: Prior engineering experience within Pharmacy Tech, Digital Health, or highly regulated FinTech/HealthTech environments.
  • Measurable Impact: History of successfully leading major architecture modernization projects (e.g., monolith-to-services migrations, database overhauls).

Physical requirements for this role include the ability to work at a computer terminal with monitor, keyboard and mouse for extended periods of time, stoop, bend, and reach for equipment and supplies, make frequent repetitive motions required to operate a computer that include the wrists, hands and fingers, and lift, carry, push, pull, and move light objects up to 20 pounds.
