Introduction

The Department of Juvenile Services Western Maryland Children's Center is hiring full-time 12 month contractual positions to fill shifts.\r\n

LOCATION OF POSITION

Western Maryland Children's' Center\r\n18420 Roxbury Rd\r\nHagerstown, MD 21740\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Main Purpose of Job

The DJS Resident Advisor Trainee position is the entry level of work responsible for providing supervision and guidance to the youth residing in a facility that is operated by the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services. The DJS Resident Advisor Trainee ensures supervision and guidance of the youth by observing, interacting and assisting them with everyday life skills and advising them of appropriate alternative behaviors. The position is assigned a regular shift but may be required to work other shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays as required by staffing needs. The incumbent may be subject to call-in based on staffing needs.\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.\r\n\r\nExperience: None.\r\n\r\nNote: The above educational requirement is set by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission in accordance with the Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209, Annotated Code of Maryland.\r\n\r\n

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Employees in this classification must complete and successfully pass theEntrance Level Correctional Training Course for DJS staff requiredfor the Maryland Correctional Training Commission certificate during theprobationary period. \r\n\r\n2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.\r\n\r\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. In accordance with the Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209of theAnnotated Code of Maryland,the Maryland Correctional Training Commission shall establish the minimum qualifications for probationary or permanent appointment of a Department of Juvenile Services employee in a mandated position. These requirements are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations 12.10.01.04, general regulations of the Maryland Correctional Training Commission, and include:\r\n\r\nU.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien status\r\nMust be at least 21years of age\r\nA thorough background check, including fingerprinting and drug testing\r\nAn oral interview, and\r\nPhysical and psychological examinations.\r\n\r\n2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing inaccordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09.03, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.\r\n\r\n

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Healthand Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week(or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for\r\nthemselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% ofthe premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you haveenrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost of these benefits. You can\r\nalso elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and lifeinsurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.\r\nLeave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120days in a 12 month period. Thisleave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendaryear.\r\n
