Position Description

Position Summary:

NRE seeks an experienced, results-driven Sr. Buyer to join our team at New River Electrical Company.

As a Sr. Buyer, you will support various internal teams in managing the sourcing process, suppliers, and managing relationships to ensure a seamless supply chain and optimize costs. You will also collaborate with cross-functional teams, make strategic decisions and implement best practices within our growing procurement function.

Duties/Responsibilities:


  1. Support the Senior Sourcing Specialist to conduct comprehensive supplier analysis to formulate a strategic sourcing strategy, plan, or master profile that identifies new/suitable suppliers, optimize cost structures and proactively ensures continuity of supply based on macro market or industry trends.
  2. Manage the supply base by implementing a documented supplier management playbook to support EPC/large scale project work, including but not limited to drafting a supplier contract matrix, executing contractual PO releases with SOW, drafting design freezes issued to construction, status reports, FAT reports, and non-conformance reports.
  3. Ensure health of supply base by evaluating and selecting suppliers based on capability, quality, reliability, and price competitiveness.
  4. Develop supplier scorecard to measure supplier performance against agreed upon key performance indicators; tracks compliance and supports formal management reporting to the vice president and other members of senior management
  5. Benchmark, track, and analyze annual performance metrics and sourcing trends against budget to demonstrate continuous improvement and progress against strategic objectives.
  6. Coordinate with project management, outsourced engineering firms, and quality organizations to determine cause of rejected material and to drive appropriate changes to ensure elimination/reduction of those quality issues.
  7. Utilize owned or leased sourcing software and other platforms to manage requests, obtain market intelligence, and understand cost drivers to formulate business decisions.

Position Requirements

Qualification/Experience:


  1. Advanced degree in business, supply chain, or procurement and 5+ years of experience working in one or more of the following: purchasing, contract negotiation, material or production planning, operations or supply chain management.
  2. 3+ years of technical procurement experience in highly engineered electrical equipment support utility and grid operations within substations and high-voltage lines.
  3. Knowledge of and established relationships with finished product manufacturers or manufacturer representatives in the utility industry.
  4. Experience in sourcing from a global supply base using various contractual models. Proven success working on cross-functional new service or product introduction projects, completing cost models, and negotiating.
  5. Familiarity with sourcing, buying, and solicitation purchasing software and systems within a purchasing function.
  6. Exceptional written, verbal and presentation communication skills.
  7. Ability to identify and resolve technical, operational and organizational problems. Detail-oriented, self-motivated and able to respond quickly to a fast-moving and ever-changing environment.
